BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION FOR A GREATER MASSENA BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES September 21, 2017 Board Members: Paul Rufa, President Dave LaClair Ron Bacon Dan Pease Excused: Jeff Dobbins Anthony Viskovich Chris Herrick Public: Sam Carbone Staff: Tom Sullivan, Executive Director Linda Williams, Secretary Call to Order BDC President, Paul Rufa, called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. Minutes of the August Regular Meeting A motion was made by Dan Pease to approve the August 2017 Minutes, that motion was seconded by Ron Bacon and passed with all members present voting ‘Aye’. Financial Report for August 2017 The August report was unavailable Comparative Budget for August 2017 The reportwas unavailable Operations Committee No meeting was held this past month. Infrastructure Committee No meeting was held this past month. Marketing Committee Again, there was no meeting Alcoa/ Arconics Update Tom: Nothing really to report. Dave: The two companies are working together relative to employees; Arconics is expected to lay off a few people, but they will be re-hired by at the Alcoa sector. Community Revitalization Committee Tom: This committee met last Thursday and is waiting for the announcement on grants Grasse River Blueway Corridor Tom: This group continues to meet to discuss improvements along the corridor and assist the growth of business. Grasse River Clean Up Tom: Preparations continue for the actual clean-up to begin next spring. Industrial Park/Rail Spur Tom: Curran Renewable may soon be shipping fiber to one of the southern states Massena Core of the Community Tom: We now have five projects completed, and checks have been mailed to them. The RVRDA is refunding they portion of the grants to the BDC as soon as we pay the recipients. Moving Massena Forward Community Coalition Tom: This group has a meeting scheduled for September 25 New York Power Proceeds Tom: A couple of projects have been given to the Board to review and make their recommendations. North Country Alliance Tom: There was a teleconference meeting on September 20, but I was unable to call in North Country Re-Development Council They had a recent meeting, and they have been encouraged to ‘wrap it up’ North Country Regional Economic Development Council Tom: The Council met last Friday and will be announcing awards soon. Restore New York Grant Tom: They met last Friday; as mentioned before the Village received a grant for the Slavin’s building. St. Lawrence Country Economic Development Tom: They met on the 13th; we are in receipt of their logo change, and forwarded to the Board. They held another mixer in Canton this month. St. Lawrence Soyway Tom: Nothing new to report Theatre Tom: They are waiting to hear on the North Country Regional Economic Development decision.
