PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES May 05, 2025 at 4:45 PM 1260 North Road Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Board of Park Commissioners met on Monday, May 05, 2025, at the Public Works Building. Mike Taake called the meeting to order at 4:45 PM. Members present were Mike Taake, Laura Taake, Todd Galbrecht, Dan Holzberger. Members absent were Lori Hammer, Amanda Ketcham, and Jim Kolba. Also present were City Administrator Daron Haugh and Parks Superintendent Jordan Wilke. 2. Minutes: Mike Taake/Dan Holzberger to approve minutes from April 07, 2025 meeting. Motion carried. 3. Review Financial Reports: No concerns or questions generated 4. Big Dig Grant for Lions Park: Daron continues to work on the application as he consults with engineers, the DOT, Rob Nelson, and other experts. Plans are taking shape and include relocating the basketball hoops due to safety concerns, increasing parking space due to Lions Park usage, improving parking lot access and exit, and leveling the green space for activities. 5. Vibrant Spaces Grant Update: Jordan and crew have been working on the new State Street Lounge (green space). Features will include a sidewalk connecting the parking lot to State Street, a shade structure, an ADA-accessible picnic bench and tables, a drinking fountain (bubbler), a bike rake/fixing station, a shed with electric, water, and Wi-Fi hookups. A decorative fence with planters will define the boundary marker. Jordan noted that it will make a great meeting site and gathering place for downtown. 6. Jones Park Update: Jordan, Rob Nelson, and the crew have been repurposing the park from a baseball/t-ball diamond to a soccer field and green space, extraordinaire. Fencing has been removed and rolled for the potential reuse at the new dog park and other locations. Bleachers will be relocated for fan viewing. The south parking lot will be improved. Trees have been removed, and light posts will be monitored for future night use. The field will be leveled, excavated, seeded, and watered with hopes of being usable by fall depending on summer growing conditions. 7. Parks Superintendent Report: Jordan and his crew continue with mowing, brush pickup, and general park maintenance. The crew is currently short-staffed until school is out, as a few high school students have been hired for summer 2025 assistance. 8. Staff Report: Jordan stated that Veterans Park will be able to accommodate all aspects of youth baseball, t-ball, and softball. 9. Friends of Mauston Parks: Nothing to report 9.
