PLANNING SESSION -COMMON COUNCIL MINUTES September 17, 2024 at 6:00 PM 1260 North Road, Mauston 1. Call to Order/Roll Call - The Mauston Common Council held a Planning Session on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Mayor Darryl Teske called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. Members present were Courtney Ferguson, Barb Hoilien, Rick Noe, Leanna Hagen, and Donna McGinley. Absent were Jim Allaby, and Mary Bender. Mayor Darryl Teske, City Administrator Daron Haugh, Police Chief Mike Zilisch, Fire Chief Brent Lenorud, Director of Public Works Rob Nelson, and Deputy Clerk Nicole Lyddy were also present. 2. Planning Session - . Each department head shared both the challenges and accomplishments they have experienced within their respective departments. The Police Chief and Fire Chief highlighted that wages and hiring remain their biggest hurdles. The Fire Chief also noted that the Fire Station floor still requires proper repairs. Meanwhile, the Police Chief mentioned the rising cost of technology as a challenge, though several grants have been secured in the past to help mitigate this issue. The Public Works Director reported that his department is currently fully staffed, but anticipates at least two retirements within the next five years. His main concerns include the cost of obtaining CDLs for new hires and the rising expenses of street projects and snow removal. All departments emphasized that they have strong teams in place, with staff morale showing significant improvement. They also noted that increased community involvement has positively impacted how residents perceive the City. The discussion then shifted to zoning, code enforcement, and planning goals for the next five years. 3. Adjourn - The motion was made by Hagen and seconded by Hoilien to adjourn.
