TREE BOARD MINUTES April 08, 2024 at 4:00 PM 303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call-The Mauston Tree Board met on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Public Works Building on North Road. The meeting was called to order at 4:00 PM. Members present were Laura Taake, Maynard Miller, Rob Nelson, Beth Babcock (by phone). Also present was Parks Superintendent Jordan Wilke. 2. Arbor Day Celebration- Jordan announced Arbor Day will be proclaimed on Wednesday, April 24th with the rain date April 25th, 2024. The celebration will be held on Water Street. Beth Babcock and her Mauston High School class will assist in planting trees along the Lemonweir River and Water Street. Ms. Babcock’s class will continue to help plant 3 tribute trees in the afternoon of the same day. Madison TV station will be at Marachowsky Park to interview Jordan about Mauston’s Living Food Pantry. 3. Tree City and the Urban Forestry Award- Jordan announced that Mauston has been a Tree City Award and Growth Award for ten straight years. Jordan’s Innovation in Forestry Award will be presented to him at the City Council meeting and for the public at 6:30 PM Tuesday, April 9th. 4. Living Food Pantry Update- The Living food Pantry fared well through the winter and the trees and bushes are full of healthy blossoms. Jordan said it will be 3 - 4 years before the Apple, Cherry, Plum, Pear trees and raspberries and blackberries bushes provide a viable source of fruit. Staff will continue to monitor the soil and fertilization to ensure bountiful harvests and healthy trees and bushes. Jordan and staff continue to monitor for Emerald Ash Borer and the removal and treatment of said trees. Lastly, Jordan and staff continue to work with our Tribute Tree Program and update markers and pruning and planting, as necessary. 5.
