TREE BOARD MEETING MINUTES May 12, 2026 at 3:45 PM 1260 North Road Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Mauston Tree Board met on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at the Public Works Building on North Road. The meeting was called to order at 3:48 p.m. by Chair Laura Taake. Members present were Laura Taake, Maynard Miller, Rob Nelson, and Beth Babcock. Also present was Parks Superintendent/Arborist Jordan Wilke. 2. Minutes: Motion by Miller, seconded by Babcock, to approve the minutes from February 19, 2026. Motion carried by voice vote. 3. Arbor Day Celebration: Wilke reported that the Arbor Day celebration at Jones Park was a success. Newly planted trees will have watering bags installed and are expected to provide shade for years to come. 4. Growth Awards: Nothing to report. 5. Urban Forestry Report: Wilke reported that he will be making a presentation to the Council regarding the Tree City USA requirements. The Tree Board continues work on Tree City USA Growth Award eligibility, including maintaining the tree inventory, supporting youth education through Arbor Day activities and presentations at Mauston High School, pursuing grant opportunities, and researching tree debris recycling options. Wilke and Mike Minard continue to attend annual DNR-approved training seminars. 6. Next Planting: The Board discussed future tree planting and removal needs throughout the City. Wilke recommended planting six (6) to eight (8) trees in fall 2026 and requested input from Board members regarding potential locations. 7. Adjourn: Motion by Nelson, seconded by Miller, to adjourn.
