ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS MINUTES October 30, 2024 at 6:00 PM 303 Mansion Street Mauston, WI 1. Call to Order/Roll Call: The Zoning Board of Appeals meeting was called to order at 6:05 P.M. by Allison Schwark in the Council Room at Mauston City Hall. Board members present were Dennis Thomas, Diane Kropiwka, Leslie Householder, and Jim Kolba by phone. Absent was Vivian Gabower. Also present was Zoning Administrator Allison Schwark. 2. Appointment of Chair: Householder/ Thomas motioned to nominate Diane Kropiwka for chair. Motion was unanimously carried. 3. Appointment of Secretary: Kropiwka/ Thomas motioned to nominate Leslie Householder secretary. Motion unanimously carried. 4. Minutes: Thomas/Kropiwka to approve minutes of December 12, 2023. Motion carried. 5. Public Hearing: St. Paul Lutheran Church, for a variance request for an electronic message center sign located at 517 Grayside Avenue, Mauston. Kropiwka opened the hearing at 6:08 pm. 6. St. Paul Lutheran Church, for a variance request for an electronic message center sign located at 517 Grayside Avenue, Mauston: The sign is programmed to turn on and off at specific times. This request is for a variance in signage, not a rezoning. Mauston High School has similar signage across the street, located in an M1 zone, which is not zoned residential as the area around St. Paul's Lutheran Church. If the variance is approved, it will remain with the property as long as the sign is in use. Any major changes to the sign's structure or size in the future would require new variance approval. Routine maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, is not considered a major change. Householder/Kropiwka to close the public hearing at 6:26 p.m. Thomas/ Householder motion to approve variance request for EMC sign with no restrictions. Motion carried. 7.
