MENOMONIE AIRPORT COMMISSION
March 23, 2022
The Menomonie Airport Commission was called to order by Chairman Dr. Dan
Johnson at 6:00pm on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 in the City Council Chambers
at 800 Wilson Ave. Other Commission members present included: Kerry
McCauley, Earl Wildenberg and Randy Sommerfeld. Others in attendance
included: Randy Eide, Lowell Prange, Darrel Gibson and several members of
the public.
The February 16, 2022 minutes were accepted by consensus.
There were no Public Comments at the beginning of the meeting.
No change on the AWOs status – The Bureau of Aeronautics has all of the
required paperwork to replace the system and will package our request with
other failed AWOS systems in the State.
Chairman Johnson introduced the concept of extending the east/west runway to
allow for more aircraft to be able to access the airport and surrounding
community. The Commission and the public reviewed several scenarios
associated with extending the runway to include: closing Stokke Parkway and
extending the runway to the west; Adjusting Stokke Parkway to accommodate a
longer runway and displacing the existing threshold. The public in
attendance were supportive of a longer east/west runway. No action was taken
by the Commission. It is anticipated that the future Airport Master Plan
will look into this topic in full detail.
The Airport Manager presented his report.
MOTION to adjourn by Wildenberg, seconded by McCauley. MOTION passed.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 6:00pm at the
City Council Chambers (800 Wilson Ave). Eide was asked to email all
Commission members to see if they are able to attend the April 27, 2022
meeting.
