Meeting Minutes
January 17, 2024
The Menomonie Airport Commission was called to order by Dr. Dan Johnson at 6:00 pm on
Wednesday January 17, 2024 in the KLUM Terminal Conference Room. Other Commission
members present included: Earl Wildenberg, Steven Lee, Randy Sommerfeld, and Kerry
McCauley.
Others in attendance included: David Schofield (City of Menomonie), Darrel Gibson (Gibson
Aviation), Jim Tennessen, Tim Tyre, Bruce Trimble and Ross Nelson.
Johnson asked for public comments. No public comments were received.
Minutes from the December 12, 2023 meeting were approved by acclimation.
Schofield provided update on Master Plan. No action taken.
Johnson presented proposal to modify PAPIs to be on the pilot controlled lighting system.
Johnson polled commission and others in attendance for their thoughts. General
consensus was that PAPI modifiations would be acceptable. Johnson/Sommerfeld motion
to approve PAPI modifications. Motion carried.
Schofield provided update on AWOS replacement. Johnson noted inconsistent weather
observations continue to be a concern. Gibson noted that he has contacted technician who
is scheduled to complete service call during the week of January 22. No action taken.
Johnson indicated that Gibson has provided him with a list of potential users of the
Transient Hangar and he will be working with SEH to contact them in the near future to
provide additional justification for use when approaching WisBOA and City Council.
Johnson polled commission and others in attendance about what project would be next on
the list if Transient Hangar cannot be funded. General consensus was replacement of the
fuel system in a better location would be high priority. No action taken.
Johnson noted that hangar owners have received a notice from the City Assessor regarding
tax law changes regarding payment of taxes on structures on leased land. Schofield
indicated that he was working with the City Assessor to create tax parcels from the legal
descriptions in the hangar leases. Schofield also noted tax law changes regarding personal
property taxes.
Gibson gave the Mangers Report.
Wildenberg/Sommerfield motion to adjourn. Motion carried.
