CALL TO ORDER Chair Shaun McConnell called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m. II. ACTION ITEMS 1. Consider approval of the April 10 Public Art Committee meeting minutes. Committee Member Nelson made a motion to approve the April Public Art Committee meeting minutes. Committee Member Schoonover seconded and the motion was unanimously APPROVED. IV. PROJECT UPDATES 1. Milagros Collective Milagros Collective has confirmed their housing in Merriam from Aug. 15-Sept. 15, and they have schedule flexibility to extend their stay if needed. They have been Page 1 of 2 Public Art Committee Minutes – July 10, 2025 experimenting with 3D printed tiles as a possible option for the exterior stairs. The material is made of ASA. They're also considering design modifications to the exterior stairs to accommodate the feedback. They plan to host a planter making workshop while they're here, and an activity to decorate crud buddies that would work best as a come and go opportunity at another event. They asked for help sourcing scaffolding, and several committee members have ideas or connections for them. The City will look at the crack on the exterior stairs and make repairs as needed. 2. Other Items from the Floor Committee members were asked to begin thinking about what project they would like to do next. There's still interest in "The Clearing" as a possible site. V. ADJOURNMENT There being no other items to consider, the meeting was adjourned at 5:56 p.m. Page 2 of 2  PUBLIC ART PROJECT Project Overview A vibrant new public art installation is planned for the upper windows of Merriam City Hall, above the main entry doors. Made of brightly colored, transparent vinyl, the artwork will transform natural light into shifting patterns of color that dance across the building’s interior. Designed as a patterned “quilt,” the installation will feature imagery inspired by wheat, sunflowers, and the beauty of sunrises and sunsets. The color palette, drawn from the City’s brand, reinforces Merriam’s identity while creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This joyful artwork is intended to provide a memorable experience for visitors and staff alike—celebrating community, beauty, and a sense of place that resonates with people of all ages.
