City of Mesquite, Texas Minutes - Final City Council Thursday, November 14, 2019 6:00 PM City Hall | Council Chamber 757 N. Galloway | Mesquite, Texas Present: Mayor Stan Pickett and Councilmembers Tandy Boroughs, Robert Miklos, Greg Noschese, Bruce Archer and Dan Aleman, City Manager Cliff Keheley and City Secretary Sonja Land. Absent: Councilmember Jeff Casper. SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING - CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER - 6:00 P.M. INVOCATION Devin LaBay, Pulpit Minister, Mesquite Church of Christ, Mesquite, Texas. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Assistant City Manager Ted Chinn, Police Chief Charles Cato and Fire Chief Mark Kerby. OTHER BUSINESS 1 Canvass results of General Election held November 5, 2019, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Councilmembers for Places, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Sonja Land, City Secretary, read the results, according to the canvass reports provided by the Dallas County and Kaufman County Elections Departments, of the General Election for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Councilmembers for Places, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 held November 5, 2019. 2 Consider a resolution declaring the results of the November 5, 2019, General Election and calling a runoff election to be held on December 14, 2019. Mr. Noschese moved to approve Resolution No. 77-2019, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MESQUITE, TEXAS, CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF MESQUITE, TEXAS, ON NOVEMBER 5, 2019, FOR THE ELECTION OF A MAYOR AND CITY COUNCILMEMBERS FOR PLACES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 AND 6; ORDERING A RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE HELD DECEMBER 14, 2019; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. Burris 432 30.38% Number of votes cast for the Office of Councilmember, Place 2: NAME NUMBER OF VOTES PERCENTAGE Kenny Green 565 64.87% Dorothy Patterson 306 35.13% Number of votes cast for the Office of Councilmember, Place 3: NAME NUMBER OF VOTES PERCENTAGE Robert Miklos 859 59.32% Noe Villarreal 129 8.91% Jennifer Vidler 460 31.77% Number of votes cast for the Office of Councilmember, Place 4: NAME NUMBER OF VOTES PERCENTAGE Tandy Boroughs 616 52.38% Bryan Odom 560 47.62% Number of votes cast for the Office of Councilmember, Place 5: NAME NUMBER OF VOTES PERCENTAGE B. W. Smith 1,027 58.42% Henry Brown 393 22.35% Sergio Garcia 338 19.23% Number of votes cast for the Office of Councilmember, Place 6: NAME NUMBER OF VOTES PERCENTAGE Daniel Aleman, Jr. 989 54.37% Christina M. Sowells 830 45.36% Motion was seconded by Mr. Boroughs and approved unanimously. (Resolution No. 77-2019 recorded in Resolution Book No. 58.) 3 Installation of newly elected Mayor and Councilmembers. City Secretary Sonja Land administered the Oath of Office to Mayor Bruce Archer, Councilmembers Kenny Green, Place 2, Robert Miklos, Place 3, Tandy Boroughs, Place 4, B. W. Smith, Place 5, and Dan Aleman, Place 6. Mr. Green and Mr. Smith entered the meeting and took their seats at the dais. Mr. Noschese left the dais. 4 Presentation of gavel to former Mayor Stan Pickett. Mayor Bruce Archer presented former Mayor Stan Pickett with a gavel commemorating his service to the City of Mesquite. PRESENTATION Motley Elementary School students performed the song "Por La Vida." City of Mesquite, Texas Page 2 City Council Minutes - Final November 14, 2019 PRAYER Harry Sewell, Lead Pastor, Family Cathedral, Mesquite, Texas, and Dr. Terry Turner, Senior Pastor, Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church, Mesquite, Texas, invited ministers in attendance to come forward to participate in the closing prayer. CLOSING REMARKS Mayor Bruce Archer thanked everyone for attending and presented closing remarks. ADJOURNMENT Mr. Miklos moved to adjourn the meeting. Motion was seconded by Mr. Aleman and approved unanimously.
