1. Roll Call- In attendance: Ellen Baranowski, Karen Broscoe, John Broscoe, Carey Smith, Catherine
Zembruski. Absent: Jennifer Loiselle. Meeting commenced at 6:30 PM.
2. Public Participation- none
3. Vote on Minutes
a) February 12, 2024- motion to accept made by Karen; seconded by Catherine; vote passed
unanimously.
4. Council Business
a) 2025 MCC Guidelines and Priorities- discussion and edits suggested for the council
priorities:
- cap funding requests?: No, we do not want to add a “cap” to the requests
- paragraph 8 ‘Approved grantees must [change to “are encouraged to”] advertise
event(s) in local Methuen media’
- paragraph 9 ‘PO Box 453 [change to “PO Box 1006”]’
- add: new paragraph “The Methuen Cultural Council does not fund food/beverage
expenses” to be consistent with MA Cultural Council standards.
Motion made to accept the changes to the MCC Guidelines and Priorities by John;
seconded by Karen; vote passed unanimously.
b) Direct Granting- tabled until the April meeting
Motion made to table by Ellen; seconded by Karen; vote passed unanimously.
5. Miscellaneous
a) Message to School Committee Public Participation on February 26, 2024
b) Ellen shared a March 7, 2024, Eagle Tribune press release by the Andover Cultural
Council which announced their funding and grant allocations. The MCC agreed that we
should do the same for our 2025 grant cycle. This spring, we will discuss whether a press
release will replace our presentations to the city council and school committee, or be
done in addition to them.
6. Look Ahead/Next Meeting- April 8th (zoom or in-person?)- Motion made by Karen to hold the
April 8th meeting via zoom; seconded by Catherine; vote passed unanimously. Agenda item will
be “Direct Granting”.
7. Adjourn- motion made by Karen; seconded by John; vote passed unanimously. Meeting
adjourned at 7:03 PM.
