City Hall- West Conference Room
I. Call to Order
a. Kristina Isabelle Calls to Order at 5:34 PM
b. Present: Bonita Schaaf, Jo Ann Engquist, Kristina Isabelle, Sarah
Jones,Veronica Martin, Faye Moore, and Albertine Allen
c. Absent: Nicole Coleman, Sharleen Livesay & Angie Nelson-Deuitch
II. Approval of Minutes of March 17, 2022 meeting
a. Moore motions to approve, Schaff seconds, all in favor
III. Treasurer’s Report
a. Balance of $15,224.75
b. Allen motions to approve, Moore seconds, all in favor
IV. New Business
a. August 26th Celebrating 10 years of the Women’s Commission
i. Goal- To share goals and programs of the commission and
raise funds
ii. Vision- Keynote speaker suggestion: Dana Black, state and
national women’s commissions; 2-3 Past Chairs- Sharon
Carnes has agreed to speak
iii. Proposed Fee: $50/person; $500 to sponsor a table
1. Possibly adding an incentive for sponsoring a table
such as an advertisement.
iv. Honor Women from Michigan City- display on each table,
possible trivia questions and facts about each person.
1. Isabelle will create a google doc of women to honor that
can be added to collaboratively as they come up.
v. Timeline-
1. May- Venue Confirmation/Guest Speakers/Entertainment
a. Allen will check with Orak about event space
2. June- Send out Save the Dates
3. July- Send invites out
4. August 15th- RSVP
b. Women’s Health Care
i. How to decide on a goal? Narrowing down the focus.
1. Community Survey to see what the needs are. Possibly
2 surveys- in person and/or social media
2. How to get the surveys out and who to get it out to.
3. Listening Sessions a possible idea
ii. Providing where to look for resources that are available to the
community
1. Liz Pina- Possible resource from Healthlink for Hispanic
families
2. Utilize the Michigan City website to provide links for
resources the community can access or other platforms
to locate resources.
V. Old Business
a. Native American Project- May 6th at Michigan City Public Library
beginning at 4:30pm.

(a) Establishment; Purpose and intent.
(1) There is hereby established a Commission for Women. The purpose of this Commission is to ensure that
women and men have equal opportunity to function fully and optimally as citizens of the city, as equal
participants in the economy, in politics and government, in education, in social development, in the system of
justice, and in all other facets of life.
