MICHIGAN CITY COMMISSION ON THE SOCIAL STATUS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN MALES Kerry Hogan Kenny Fly, Sr Pastor Kim Williams Stasi Benning Chairman Vice-Chairman Secretary Treasurer MARCH 16, 2022 MEETING MINUTES CALL TO ORDER: The meeting called to order by Commissioner Secretary, Pastor Kim Williams Roll Call: Present: Stasi Benning, Walter Cox, Pastor Carroll, Kenny Fly, Sr. Rodney McCormick, Pastor Kim Williams, Willie Milsap, Faye Moore, Linda Conley, Wendell, McCullom (Zoom), Tracey Tillman Absent: N. Williams, K Hogan Pledge Mission Statement read Approval of Feb. 2022 Minutes: Moved, seconded and passed. Treasurer Report: No changes since the last meeting. Moved and seconded. Report approved. Balance $2,098.22 New Business: It was moved by Commissioner McCormick and seconded that issues Commissioner Hogan had regarding the need for community services be tabled until Commissioner Hogan returned at next meeting. Commissioner McCormick suggested the Commission work more with the City Council. The city needed to release body cam photo of Kelly incident. The commission should be networking with Indianapolis Social Status and Director Garrett. Preparation of annual report for Common Council due at beginning of the year. Motion by Commissioner McCormick to have new bylaws to the council to have Muni code amended. Seconded by Commissioner Benning. Roll call taken motion passed. Commissioner Moore suggested that perhaps the Commission should be networking. Gary Commission and State House. Question if the Federal gov in charge of the program. Old Business: Commissioner McCormick moved to change Facebook administrator immediately. Motion 2nd by Commissioner Cox. Roll call taken motion passed. Sub Committees Reports: Education Chair Commissioner McCullom reported to the board on Rev BJ Ashley Scholarship. Amount $1000.00. Deadline 06/03/2022 Summer programs are in place. Fly High youth programs at Hope Center Employment Chair Commissioner Milsap: upcoming Employment Workshop. Criminal Justice: Meeting via conference call. Agreed to meet quarterly and create a calendar for meetings. Speakers for Criminal Justice quarterly. Program for funding Criminal Justice reform. HB 1296: license to carry, salary increase for police and purchase of body cams. Round Table: Subcommittees meetings can be held at Eastport Fire Station 4th Tues 6 pm on Michigan Blvd Collaboration with other organizations Public Comments: Tanisha George, Human Rights, informed Board that subcommittee meetings must abide by the same rules as general meetings regarding notification and agenda.
