Michigan Blvd. * Michigan City, IN 46360 * Telephone: (219) 873-1570 * Emergency: Dial 911 Michigan City Police Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes: January 13, 2016 Commissioner Pliske called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. A quorum was noted with Commissioners John Pliske, Mike Buda, and Mike Palmer in attendance. Also present was Police Chief Mark Swistek, Assistant Police Chief Royce Williams, Sgt. Chris Yagelski, Commission attorney Jennifer Koethe, and City Council Liaison Pat Boy. Commissioner Buda made a motion to accept all the minutes as presented from the regular meeting and special meetings. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Palmer and carries as follows: AYES: Members Pliske, Buda, and Palmer (3). NAYS: None (0). Motion Carries. Probationary Officers Report- Sgt. Chris Yagelski stated that the three (3) Probationary Officers were out riding with officers now, and their probation was set to end March 30, 2016. Currently we have one applicant in background right now. After the January 9, 2016 testing, which there were 24 total testing, when all was said and done, the commission has 17 that passed both the written and physical fitness test and will be moving on to the interviews. At this time, Sgt. Chris Yagelski gave a presentation about the Kindles and cost that would be used for the upcoming promotional testing. Report from Chief Swistek- Chief Swistek thanked the commission for holding the testing on January 9. Also, Congratulations to Bruce Krause on his retirement. As well as the Crime Report is ready and will be presented at the City Council meeting on Tuesday. Report from Assistant Chief- Assistant Police Chief Tim Richardson Congratulated Bruce Krause on his Retirement. Report from Commission Attorney- No Report New Business- None Commission Comment- Commissioner Palmer announced that Lieutenant Steve Westphal is the 2015 Recipient of the “Officer Chris Smith Award”. Report from City Council Liaison- Pat Boy congratulated both Steve Westphal and Bruce Krause. Commissioner Buda made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Palmer and carries as follows: AYES: Members Pliske, Buda, and Palmer (3). NAYS None (0). Motion Carries.
