Michigan Blvd. * Michigan City, IN 46360 * Telephone: (219) 873-1570 * Emergency: Dial 911 Michigan City Police Civil Service Commission Meeting Minutes: March 16, 2016 Commissioner Pliske called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. A quorum was noted with Commissioners John Pliske, Mike Buda, and Mike Palmer in attendance. Also present was Police Chief Mark Swistek, Assistant Police Chief Tim Richardson, Commission Attorney Jennifer Koethe, and City Council Liaison Pat Boy. Commissioner Buda made a motion to accept all the minutes as presented from the regular meeting and special meetings. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Palmer and carries as follows: AYES: Members Pliske, Buda, and Palmer (3). NAYS: None (0). Motion Carries. Probationary Officers Report- Sgt. Chris Yagelski stated that the three (3) Probationary Officers on probation were set to come off March 30, 2016. Discussion ensued between the Commissioners and Sgt. Yagelski about the upcoming academy. Report from Chief Swistek- Chief Swistek stated the Past Performances should be done next week and that the commission should have them all shortly after that. Chief Swistek invited the Commission to tour the new police station on Tuesday, March 22 at 9:00 AM stating they hope to get the keys in July and be all moved in by August. Chief Swistek also updated the Commission about the park that will be built in the back of the new police station. Report from Commission Attorney- No Report New Business- None Old Business- Sgt. Chris Yagelski updated the Commission about the Kindles, stating there were 26 Kindles and they would load as many books on them as possible. Commission Comment- Commissioner Palmer read the following awards: Officer Zanda Chavez received a “15” year Service Pin Officer Dylan Travis received a “10” year Service Pin Corporal Jeff Piotrowski received a “25” year Service Pin Officer Tom Bunton received a “25” year Service Pin Lt. Cary Brinkman received a “25” year Service Pin Sgt. Tony McClintock received a “20” year Service Pin Officer Dave Cooney received a “10” year Service Pin Officer Larry Young Jr. received a “10” year Service Pin Commissioner Palmer also addressed the Board about study guides for the upcoming Promotional test, that they were ready to be passed out to the officers who had signed up to take the test. On behalf of the Commission, Commissioner Buda congratulated the officers who received Service Pins. Report from City Council Liaison- Pat Boy congratulated the officers who received Service Pins and thanked Sgt. Yagelski for his work on the Kindles. Commissioner Buda made a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Palmer and carries as follows: AYES: Members Pliske, Buda, and Palmer (3). NAYS None (0).
