Minutes Michigan City Public Art Committee Mayors Conference Room, City Hall, 100 E Michigan Blvd, Michigan City, IN 46360 May 17, 2018 10:00 am Call to Order: Robin Kohn Attendees: Robin Kohn, Jane Daley, Dale Cooper, Janet Bloch, CarolAnn Brown, Matt Kubik, Jessica Rosier, Shannon Eason Guest: Hanna Hammond, Emily Reth Liaison: Kathy Dennis Minutes: Minutes from the April meeting were reviewed. Motion It was moved (Kubik) and seconded (Brown) to accept the minutes. The motion carried unanimously. Financial Report: Ms. Eason reported that the funds at the end of March were as follows: The operating fund has a balance of $7,630.00 The non-reverting donation fund, has a balance of $17,536.13. Motion It was moved (Daley) and seconded (Bloch) to accept the financial report as presented. The motion carried unanimously. Public Comment: Ms. Rosier introduced the new Barker Mansion Director, Emily Reth. Old Business: • Sculptfusion: Ms. Bloch presented 2 sculptures (Dasein which was donated and Owl & Pussycat to be purchased for $19,000) that MAC would like to keep on behalf of the city to the RDC and the recommendation was approved. The Board of Works has to approve both pieces. Four Sculptfusion pieces will be removed on June 10th and the new ones will be installed by June 17th, weather permitting. Ms. Eason and Ms. Bloch will help find contractors to help with installation and removal. • Westcott Park Kiosk: Ms. Cooper reported that everything is fine in the park and with the kiosk and we are all happy that Swale Fest will be happing in the park. • Mining the Archives: Mr. Kubik will have 9 pieces prepared and framed by SFC for a total of $1,146.45 New Business: Ms. Boy ask the RDC about committing a percentage for art and they will discuss. The plan committee would need to prepare an ordinance that would go before the city council. The MAC committee consisting of (Mr. Kubik, Ms. Fosberg, Ms. Jacobi, Ms. Bloch and Ms. Boy) will meet soon to discuss how to proceed. • Kick-off Event for Sculptfusion The committee decided to host the Sculptfusion kick-off and Deisen dedication event will be held on Wednesday, August 1 at City Hall starting at 6 pm, followed by refreshments inside. • Otocast, Facebook, Website Ms. Eason will take recent photos for Otocast and she will reach out to the Michigan city IT person to correct problems with our website. Ms. Bloch will contact Shoreline Brewery to get permission to add their artwork to Otocast and ask them to become a sponsor. • Fund Raisers “Art, Architecture & Appetizers” (Mr., Kubik, Ms. Bloch, Ms. Rosier, Ms. Cooper) Ms. Cooper and Mr. Kubik met to begin plans. This event will happen sometime in the early fall. It will be a walking tour with stops at ArtSpace and the Library. There will be more information at the June meeting. “Give Back” Ms. Kohn will have a total of money raised at the next meeting “Women in the Arts” No Report “Interactive Gears & Lock Sculpture” No Report Committee Reports: • Art Projects: Expect a proposal from Abigale Thayer at the June meeting. • Children’s Art Scholarship Requests: There was 1 requests presented. Motion It was moved (Daley) and seconded (Eason) to accept the application for children’s art instruction at the Lubeznik Center for the Pop Art class for $120. The motion carried unanimously. • PR Committee- (Janet Bloch, CarolAnn Brown, Jane Daley, Kyron Williams Ms. Jacobi) Ms. Daley prepared the invitations and for the “Give Back” events and boosted the Swingbelly’s event on Facebook. • MCNEAT Report Ms. Daley reported that MCNEAT has disbanded and the survey of the downtown merchants and organizations will be finished soon. • Other MC Commissions/Committees: Michigan City Mainstreet Association They are working on the upcoming Swale Fest will be on Memorial Day Weekend at Wescott Park.
