Minutes Michigan City Public Art Committee Legacy Center at Queen of All Saints Church, 606 S Woodland Ave Michigan City, IN 46360 August 16, 2018 10:00 am Call to Order: Robin Kohn Attendees: Robin Kohn, Jane Daley, Dale Cooper, Janet Bloch, Matt Kubik, Kyron Williams, Shannon Eason, Carol Ann Brown, Pat Boy, Kathy Dennis Minutes: Minutes from the July meeting were reviewed. Motion It was moved (Kubik) and seconded (Brown) to accept the minutes. The motion carried unanimously. Financial Report: Ms. Eason reported that the funds at the end of July were as follows: The operating fund has a balance of $6,187.86. The non-reverting donation fund has a balance of $11,719.13. Motion It was moved (Daley) and seconded (Boy) to accept the financial report as presented. The motion carried unanimously. Public Comment: No Public Comment Old Business: • Sculptfusion: Ms. Eason reported the Mayor Meer really liked the piece titled Khnum “Ram on a Stick” by Sophie Marie, so it was placed in Washington Park near Sunset Grille. The “Ram on a Stick” attracted a lot of attention during the Great Lakes Grand Prix. Visitors took photos of it and posted them on Facebook. Motion It was moved (Daley) and seconded (Boy) to send a letter to the park board in support of keeping the sculpture Khnum “Ram on a Stick” at its present location in Washington Park. The motion carried unanimously. Kick-off Event for Sculptfusion This event was very successful. MAC appreciated Mayor Meer and Don Babcock for their inspiring words and for their support. Thanks again to John Sauve for his donation of “Deisen” to the city and to Ms. Dennis for securing the appetizers from Scartozzi’s Trattoria. Westcott Park Kiosk: No Report. • Mining the Archives: Mr. Kubik reported that he and Ms. Rosier are still working to find another photo that depicts the diversity of the community. They will have a report in September. Report concerning 2% for art from Redevelopment Ms. Boy attended the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee for 2040 meeting and she reported that they have started a discussion about adding a percentage to a project that would go toward art. New Business: Otocast, Facebook, Website Ms. Bloch will talk with Justin Post about getting access to our website. Ms. Eason will contact Otocast to make sure their information is up-to-date. Fund Raisers “Art, Architecture & Appetizers” (Mr. Kubik, Ms. Bloch, Ms. Rosier, Ms. Cooper) Mr. Kubik will contact Barker Mansion to partner with them to move this fund raiser forward. A late September early October will be set for the event. He will have the final information at the September meeting. Mr. Williams will make sure that ArtSpace is ready for the event. “Give Back” Received a check from Swingbelly’s for $123.  “Women in the Arts” Postponed until 2019 “Interactive Gears & Lock Sculpture” On hold Committee Reports: • Art Projects: No projects were submitted. • Children’s Art Scholarship Requests: There were no request submitted Motion • PR Committee- (Janet Bloch, CarolAnn Brown, Jane Daley, Kyron Williams Ms. Jacobi) Ms. Daley and Ms. Brown will compose the support letter for the park board. • Other MC Commissions/Committees: Michigan City Mainstreet Association No Report Michigan City Merchants Association Branding Committee No Report Comments: Ms. Daley announced that the Next Idea & Information Exchange will be hosted by the Washington Park Zoo on Thursday, September 20th starting at 5 pm. Mr. Williams is working with John Hancock on a movie titled “The Girls of Summer”. He will try to help MAC secure a special premier of the movie when it is ready.
