Ms. Dennis reported that the committee along with City Planner, Craig Phillips and his
assistant, met with artist Jason Quigno on August 27th at Westcott Park. The purpose of
the meeting was to narrow down the optimal site for placement of a 20-foot-high obelisk
sculpture. They identified as the favored site, the westernmost triangular area of
Westcott Park. The work will be made in stone: granite, limestone, marble, the
anticipated weight 12,000 pounds. The symbolic meaning of the piece should suggest
the interaction and connectivity of humanity; history and culture. The deadline of our
highly motivated group is sometime in 2021 which coincides with the 195th Anniversary
of the Treaty between the State of Indiana and the Pottawatomie Tribe. The anticipated
expense for the sculpture alone is $100,000+ and does not include the concrete base,
lighting, landscaping, etc. Artist Quigno will create a Marquette (scale model) of the
piece. The Marquette can be sold or auctioned off as a fund raiser for the finished piece.
