Minutes Michigan City Public Art Committee Mayors Conference Room September 15, 2022 10:00 am Call to Order: Janet Bloch Attendees: Dale Cooper, Judy Jacobi, Kathy Dennis, CarolAnn Brown, Matt Kubik, John Ryszka, Don Przybylinski Minutes: Minutes from the August regular meeting were approved. Financial Report: The financial report for August was tabled until the October meeting. The transfer of money was tabled until the October meeting. Public Comment: There was no public Old Business:  Kiosk in Westcott Park - Subcommittee: Dale Cooper, John Ryszka and Matt Kubik Ms. Cooper proposed that the work from the children's class from the Lubeznik Centerabout Naomi Anderson be used in the kiosk.  Native American Project - No report  Report concerning a percentage for art from Redevelopment – Subcommittee-Judy Jacobi (chairperson) Matt Kubik, CarolAnn Brown, Robin Kohn, Shannon Eason, Janet Bloch, Don Przybylinski, Kathy Dennis The committee postponed their workshop and will meet on October 13 at City Hall starting at 10 am, then they will report back to the committee on October 20. They will begin to draft an ordinance.  Otocast – Mr. Ryszka reported that Otocast has been updated and he will make a flyer to let the public and other businesses and organizations know that it costs $100 per year to join Otocast and $60 to renew  Adding a Public Art Element to Observation Deck - Subcommittee Eaton, Daley, Dennis On going  Neighborhood Art Committee/Murals for Canada Park– Subcommittee: Dale Cooper, John Ryszka, Shannon Eason, Janet Bloch, Matt Kubik, Kathy Dennis, CarolAnn Brown The committee met at Gardena Park and proposed several ideas that will be discussed at the October MAC meeting  Repaint Dasein & Faust This project is on the park departments fall schedule New Business  Native American Project - Subcommittee – Carol Ann Brown, Kathy Dennis, Jane Daley The committee is waiting for Ms. Eason's return with her report after meeting with the BOW  Sculptfusion – Moving other sculpture pieces Ms. Eason and Mr. Kubik will report in October  Adding Private Art to Otocast No report  Moving “You are Beautiful” Ms. Dennis reported that this move needs to be a priority because construction of the hotel could start soon.  5K Sculptfusion run Mr. Ryszka reported that the police department would no longer help with new runs, so he will the event director at City Hall.  Committee Reports No reports  Art Projects: No requests  Children’s Art Scholarship Requests: subcommittee Janet Bloch, CarolAnn Brown, Jane Daley, Judy Jacobi There were no requests  PR, Marketing, Press releases - Subcommittee: Bloch, Brown Cooper, Jacobi, Daley Ms. Jacobi reported that MAC got great coverage concerning Sculptfusion from the Beacher and the Herald Dispatch  Other MC Commissions/Committee Reports Pertinent to MAC Mr. Kubik reported that the Michigan City Historical Society would like to move the Robert Grafton mural from the old Elston High School to a more visible venue so that it can be shared with the public  Comments Mr. Kubik reported that the fountain at Ames Field is being renovated. He went on to report that the mural on the side of Ryan McGrath building on Barker should be considered as public art, he will write a letter on behalf of MAC stating that concept. Mr. Ryszka asks the committee to bring ideas for interactive sculptures or murals to be place in playgrounds.
