MINUTES ANTI-RACISM TASK FORCE MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT SPECIAL MEETING APRIL 26, 2021 Present: Brian Gartner, Valerie Light, Viviana Conner, Bobbye Knoll Peterson, Samantha Rival, Kirk Hart, Councilman Darnell Ford, Mayor Benjamin D. Florsheim, Precious Price, Kayon Morgan, Sacha Armstrong-Crockett, Councilman Ed Ford Jr., Stacey Barka, Nasharie Davis 1. Call to Order. Meeting was called to order at approximately 6:03 p.m. 2. Public Comment. Public in attendance. No comment by the public. Councilman Darnell Ford motioned to close the public comment. 3. Approval of Minutes: MOTION: Valerie Light made a MOTION to approve the minutes of the March 8, 2021 Anti- Racism Task Force Regular Meeting. The Motion was seconded by Councilman Ed Ford Jr. The Motion passed unanimously. 4. New Business. A. NCCJ Report: discuss next steps 1) Discussion on status of HR request (labor equity) 2) Discussion on MPD compliance on Police Accountability Bill(Criminal Justice System Equity) 3) Discussion on CRB and Charter Revision vote on mandating creation of a CRB (Criminal Justice System Equity) 4) April is Fair Housing Month (housing segregation) B. Read Mission Statement and Goals with glossary. Motion made to amend the language change for people of color to BIPOC under the Criminal justice system equity in the glossary by Councilman Darnell Ford. The Motion was seconded by Viviana Conner. The Motion passed unanimously. Another Motion made by Councilman Darnell Ford to add racial justice in the Mission Statement, goals and glossary. The Motion was seconded by Kirk Hart. The Motion passed unanimously. C. Discussion on agenda and dates for task force retreat Motion made by Councilman Darnell Ford to approve dates of May 10, 2021 and May 11, 2021 from 6 pm to 9 pm for the 2 day retreat. The Motion was seconded by Samantha Rival. The Motion passed unanimously. Another Motion was made by Councilman Darnell Ford to replace the Regular Meeting scheduled on May 10, 2021 to a Special Meeting on May 17, 2021 at 6 p.m. The Motion was seconded by Sacha Armstrong-Crockett. The Motion passed unanimously. 5. Adjournment. MOTION to adjourn made by Councilman Darnell Ford. The MOTION was seconded by Viviana Conner. The Motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:36 p.m.
