Middletown Commission on the Arts Poet Laureate Subcommittee MINUTES Monday, April 9, 2018, 6 p.m. Municipal Building Room B-19, 245 deKoven Drive, Middletown, CT 06457 Present: Cassandra Day, Crystal Laffan, Franca Biales, Julia Faraci (6:14 p.m.) Call to order: 6:10 p.m. Public session: No members of the public present Application process review: Call for submissions out by June 1, 2018; application deadline Aug. 3, 2018. We ask Allison to send out a doodle for the next meeting with the choices of May 7-10 and 14-15. Commissioners made two changes to the call for nominations: (under process) Submissions due Aug. 3, 2018, and (under procedure) poet laureate will be appointed in October 2018. Once the call is out, Day will send out a press release to media, it will be posted on the MCA Facebook page, we’ll ask Rolande at the Russell Library to help promote it as well as The Buttonwood Tree, Wesleyan R.J. Julia Bookstore and any other outlets panel suggests. Interviews will be conducted no later than the second week of September. Faraci will reach out to Susan Allison for feedback on the poet laureate post, how to best reach Middletown poets in our call, any suggestions she may have. At the next meeting, we will discuss the makeup of the poet laureate interview panel, when the outgoing poet laureate will be celebrated, when the incoming poet laureate will be appointed, and feedback received from Susan Allison.
