Minutes of Meeting Wednesday Nov. 18th, 7:00pm Middletown, CT Via WebEx Present: Barbara Arafeh David Bauer Julia Faraci Lee Godburn Joyce Kirkpatrick Crystal Laffan Pamela Steele Also present: Andrew Gonzalez, public Kisha Michael, Staff Absent: John Basinger Charlotte McCoid Edward Ford, Common Council Edward McKeon, Common Council 1. Call to Order The Meeting was called to order at 7:04pm by Pamela Steele. 2. Public Session No public session. 3. Minutes of last meeting approval David Bauer moved to amend minutes to correct the GM Chorale date. Motion was seconded by Lee Godburn, approved unanimously. 4. Approval of Agenda Lee Godburn moved to approve. Seconded by Joyce Kirkpatrick, approved unanimously. 5. Remarks from the Chair Pamela Steele, Lee Godburn, and Kisha Michael met with Mayor Florsheim on Tuesday Nov. 17th to discuss the MCA’s operations, future, and wishes to push for youth involvement & programing, and other directions the commission should go in. 6. Old Business a. Committee Reports Executive Committee: Godburn requests MCA bring forth Arts Advocacy Award nominations for individual & group for January MCA meeting. Music: Arafeh talked with members of the Middlesex County Historical Society with working on the music exhibition in 2021. b. Staff report Kisha Michael sent in memo to Mayor Florsheim with assessment of her duties and her goals for the future direction of the MCA. The Mayor briefly reviewed it and will be meeting with Michael to review it together soon. 7. New Business Godburn made motion to appoint Laffan as Secretary. Motion was seconded by Bauer. Motion approved unanimously. Kirkpatrick heard there might be damage to the sculpture by John Risley that was housed at the Senior Center but now is located at the Council Chamber. Faraci mentioned the mural at St. Vincent has been partially painted over because of structural damage to building. 8. Announcements Michael announced that Arts events being posted on Facebook and via emails; Holiday on Main events are still happening this season but in a virtual capacity. Michael and the MCA also congratulated Steele for the 10 year anniversary of her knitting shop. Kirkpatrick offered praise to Michael for her recent initiatives. 9. Adjournment Laffan motioned to adjourn meeting at 7:40pm; motion was seconded by Godburn and approved unanimously. Respectfully submitted by Crystal Laffan, secretary
