MINUTES OF THE MEETING Middletown Commission on the Arts Nominating Committee Thursday, January 12, 2023 4:30 pm, Middletown, CT HELD VIRTUALLY BY WEBEX Those in attendance: Kate Ten Eyck (secretary), Charlotte McCoid (acting chair) Also in attendance: Kisha Michael, Julia Faraci Absent: Domenique Thornton 1. Call to order at 4:39 2. Present: Kate Ten Eyck (secretary), Charlotte McCoid (acting chair), Kisha Michael, Julia Faraci 3. Public Session: None 4. Approval of agenda: unanimous 5. Old business: a. We have a serious problem in that multiple Commissioners terms have already ended, or will end on June 30th, 2023. b. The following Commissioners terms have already expired: Barbara (D) c. The following Commissioners terms will expire on June 30th: Charlotte (D) and Lee (D). Julia (D) has already resigned to take the position with the City. d. We need at least two non-Democrat new Commissioners, and four who could be Democrats. 6. New Business: a. The committee discussed how to go about finding new Commissioners. Kate Ten Eyck suggested that we need to go to various groups and organizations to recruit. The committee then brainstormed organizations. Here is a list of groups and organizations that were discussed: *Wesleyan University *Public Safety (fire and police) *MXCC *Middlesex Hospital *DBD *Middletown Public Schools *Middlesex United Way *Liberty Bank *Rotary Club b. The next step is to take this list (and more brainstorming) to the full Commission meeting, and have all Commissioners sign up to recruit in at least one area. c. Two potential individuals will be brought to the full Commission meeting: Sandra Russo Driska, and Gil Scullion. Both have indicated interest in serving on the Commission. 7.
