MINUTES OF MEETING Middletown Commission on the Arts NOMINATING COMMITTEE Monday, May 11, 2023 10 a.m., Middletown, CT Arts Office, Room B11, Municipal Building NOMINATING COMMITTEE Minutes of Meeting In attendance: MCA Commissioners: Kate Ten Eyck (secretary), Charlotte McCoid (acting chair), Sari Rosenblatt Arts & Culture Office Staff: Kisha Michael, Arts Coordinator; Julia Faraci, Admin Sec’y 1. Call to order: 10:05 am. 2. Public session: no members of public were present. 3. Approval of agenda: motion to approve agenda by McCoid, seconded by Ten Eyck, approved unanimously. 4. Approval of minutes of previous meeting on 4/10/23: motion to approve minutes by McCoid, seconded by Ten Eyck, approved unanimously. 5. Old Business: a. Follow up on search for Commissioners to fill vacant seats: The Arts Office staff has created a spreadsheet of candidates. The Arts Coordinator intends to be “strategically intentional” in recruiting from a wide demographic of backgrounds and affiliations, in order to leverage a range of personal and professional experience, inside and outside the art field. The Arts Coordinator has personally approached several candidates who may be interested in serving. The Arts Office will follow up with candidates they have previously approached and new candidates brought forward today. 6. New business: a. New recommendations for prospective Commissioners: In addition to new prospects, Committee participants suggested more organization leaders who may be able to recommend members of their communities for the Commission. b. The Committee agreed on a slate of Officers for 2023-2024. The Arts Office staff will approach those Commissioners to ask if they are willing to serve on the Executive Committee. If so, the slate will be voted on in the June meeting. c. The Arts Office reported on the onboarding of newest Commissioner Sari Rosenblatt. She was issued a binder with MCA history, rules, and regulations. At her one-on-one orientation with the Arts Office Secretary, she was guided through procedures, prepared her for upcoming meetings, and had her questions answered. Commissioners commended the Arts Office on this new procedure.
