MINUTES OF MEETING Middletown Commission on the Arts NOMINATING SUBCOMMITTEE Monday, November 27, 2023 12:00 p.m., Middletown, CT Arts Office, Room B11, Municipal Building NOMINATING SUBCOMMITTEE Minutes of Meeting In attendance: MCA Commissioners: Domenique Thornton (Chair), Sharon Riley Arts & Culture Office Staff: Julia Faraci, Admin Sec’y Absent: MCA Commissioner: Gary Wallace 1. Call to order: Meeting was opened at 12:05pm. 2. Public session: no members of public were present. 3. Approval of agenda: motion to approve agenda by Riley, seconded by Thornton, approved unanimously. 4. Approval of minutes of previous meeting on 5/11/23: Michael reviewed May 11 minutes. No current Commissioners were in attendance at that meeting. Approval of minutes tabled; Thornton moved that the minutes be brought to full Commission at next Regular Meeting. 5. Old Business a. Recommendations for prospective Commissioners - Thornton made a motion recommending Philip Pessina for membership to the Arts Commission to this Committee and to the Arts Commission for their approval at their next Meeting and that the recommendation be sent to the Mayor for approval by the Common Council. Riley seconded, passed unanimously. b. Sunshine club correspondences include notes of thanks, sympathy, congratulations, and other acknowledgements. At the moment, none outstanding. Michael noted that holiday cards would keep the MCA in the minds of its contacts. c. Youth & Gov’t recruitment – Thornton proposed reaching out to art instructors to recruit continuing high school juniors to serve as Youth Commissioners during their senior year. The Arts Coordinator reviewed the Youth in Government Fact Sheet, which will be attached to these minutes. She noted that the Fact Sheet has been sent to Marco Gaylord of Middletown Public Schools. Youth in Government will be brought to the full Commission for discussion. 6. New business - none 7. Adjournment: Riley moved to adjourn; meeting adjourned at 12:27pm.
