Minutes of the Meeting Public Art Subcommittee Middletown Commission on the Arts Tuesday, May 21, 2024 88 Court St., Middletown 10:00 am Public Art Committee Commissioners Present: Pamela Steele, David Wolfram, Absent: Phil Pessina Also present: Kisha Michael, Staff 1. Call to order – 10:02 a.m. 2. Public Session – no members of public present 3. Approval of Agenda – Commissioner Wolfram moved to approve, Commissioner Steele seconded. 4. Approval of minutes – Michael made note that the minutes of 2/21/2024 requires one edit located in the year date/title of the minutes from February 21, 2024 and should read as Wednesday, February 21, 2024. Commissioner Wolfram moved to approve, Commissioner Steele seconded. 5. Old Business a. Review of all old business 1. Mayor’s Art Show and Art Exhibits in City Hall – K. Michael read from two memos from the past relating to the formation of a Mayor’s Art show, attached. Commissioner Steele and Wolfram discussed the infusion of a Mayor’s Arts Show with the MCA Senior Art Award and the MPS annual show at the Zilka Gallery. Discussion ensued on the idea of committing one hallway wall to all art awarded. It was agreed between the committee members that moving forward, all art should be viewed and judged at the time of the display at the gallery and not at the high school. It was discussed that during the viewing, a Mayor’s Choice Ribbon can be given to grades k-11, and then maintain the MCAAAAA for the seniors only. The committee agreed that the costs of framing for the students awarded should be maintained. 2. Deaccession procedure – K. Michael noted that there are several Regatta framed posters in the Arts office and would like to start the initiative of restoring, relocating or de assessing them. Commissioner Wolfram suggested that we connect with the rowing club at Harbor Park. 6. New Business a. Staff Report – K. Michael reported that she was in attendance with Commissioner Riley for the award ceremony. b. Other – the Arts Coordinator will review the current guidelines for the MCA Middletown High School Senior Student Art Award and redline. 7. Announcements – Commissioner Pessina will expand more on his presentation regarding the panels in Florida. 8.
