Middletown Public Schools -Board of Education Facilities Committee Meeting Minutes Held at the Board of Education Building, Room “A” on March 26, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 5:36 PM. Present: Chair Deborah Cain, Vinnie Loffredo, John Cross, Sean King and guest Jeff Knakal (district plumber) I. Introduction II. Review of February 21, 2018 Meeting Minutes Accepted by Deborah Cain and seconded by Vinnie Loffredo III. Trades Issues within the District Jeff Knakal was our guest speaker who stated that there is now, more than ever vandalism in both the middle and high schools. The students are not being respectful of the property and consideration must be given to safety issues in regards to this problem. Sean King suggested letting the student know of this problem because they need to be socially responsible. Middletown High has broken sensors and partitions and the hand washing sink has been repaired multiple time. Supervision and monitoring could help resolve these issues and Tyler Wentzell, the school’s student representative, could also be helpful. The boy’s locker room and the girl’s bathrooms should be priorities. Deborah will discuss this with Dr. Connor. Another problem is that the purchase order process is very time consuming, takes too long and is very cumbersome. The minimums on the PO’s are too low and a better projection would be between the $9K - $10K ranges. John Cross stated that the Trades shop is understaffed and should have at least 2 Carpenters and 2 Heat & Vent persons. IV. Discussion/Approval of Design of Farm Hill Playground This has been approved and all set to move forward. V. Alliance Grant Expenditure Update The underground oil tanks at Macdonough and Moody Schools will be removed this summer. VI. Future Woodrow Wilson Middle School Update This is moving forward and waiting to get full funding from the State in June 2018. We have obtained a project number.  (continued) - Page 2 – VII. Middletown High School Fuel Cell Status We are making progress and working with the fuel cell provider. Hopefully there can be some negotiating with the costs for better savings. Sean King recommended having an analysis from the manufacturer and partner with Constellation who own and operate the unit. VIII. Miscellaneous The meeting adjourned at 6:45 PM accepted by Deborah Cain and seconded by Sean King. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 and will be held at the Board of Education Building, Conference Room “A”.
