Middletown Public Schools -Board of Education BOE Facilities Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 5:30 PM The Committee met at 5:30 PM to take a tour of the Beaman Middle School which was over around 5:25 PM. The meeting itself was held over Zoom and streamed on YouTube. Chairperson Deborah Cain called the meeting to order at 5:32 PM. Present: Deborah Cain (Chairperson), Marco Gaylord, John Giuliano, Dan Penney, Vinnie Lofreddo – Community Member, David Bauer, Ray Linehan from BOE IT and Committee Secretary Leslie Spatola. Dr. Michael Conner, Sean King and Jonathan Pulino attended the meeting. I. Introductions II. Review of the January 20, 2021 Meeting Minutes Chairperson Cain made a motion to accept the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. King. III. Update of School Enrollment Study Mr. Gaylord and Dr. Conner will be meeting with Malone and McBroom to discuss prior to the next Board meeting and will go through the Facilities Committee. IV. Update of the 21/22 Plan of Capital Projects for 21/22 Mr. Staye was unavailable for an update but this will be discussed at the March 17, 2021 meeting. IV. Discussion of Establishing Committee for the Snow and Farm Hill Roofing Projects Mr. Gaylord emailed the Mayor requesting assistance to establish a building committee and perhaps doing a feasibility study. Mr. Lofreddo reiterated that one committee could do both projects. Each roof is estimated to be over $500k and requires a committee. The goal is to get recommendations from the Board and to get a committee appointed by the March 2021 meeting at City Council. The Committee can consist of up to eleven persons and names can be given to Mr. Lofreddo in an email with the Mayor copied as well. The goal is to get both projects completed by the start of the next school year. V. Miscellaneous Mr. Lofreddo commented how impressed he was with the tour at the Beaman Middle School and realizes there is much more that needs to be done before the school officially opens but was very impressive and the innovation areas are going to be exciting to see. - Page 2 – (Continued) Another walk through will be schedule in April to see the progress. Dr. Conner spoke about the equity work that is currently going on within the district and the progress of broader shifts. Discussions on regionalization and equity strategy will be gathered at later dates. The meeting adjourned at 7:05 PM by Chairperson Deborah Cain and seconded by Mr. Giuliano.
