Middletown Public Schools -Board of Education BOE Facilities Committee Meeting Minutes Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at 5:32 PM (Virtual) The meeting was called to order at 5:34 PM by Chairperson Deborah Cain, was held virtually on Zoom and streamed on YouTube. Present: Deborah Cain (Chairperson), Kevin Dion (Facilities Director), John Giuliano (Snow School Building Superintendent), Vinnie Loffredo (City Council & Community Member), Dan Penney (Community Member), Dr. Alberto Vazquez-Matos- Acting Superintendent, Jen Cannata – Director of Performance Manager, Charles Wiltsie – Board of Education Member, Leslie Spatola, BOE Facilities Department & Committee Secretary and Ray Linehan from BOE IT department. I. Introductions II. Review of the January 19, 2022 Meeting Minutes Chairperson Cain made a motion to accept the minutes and was seconded by Mr. Wiltsie. III. Update on Macdonough Feasibility Study – K. Dion Mr. Dion stated that there was no update as of yet and they would be meeting with the Mayor within the next few weeks and will hopefully have an update at the next meeting. IV. Status of the Beman Middle School Construction Project – K. Dion The punch list continues and the roof leak needs to be taken care of but will be repaired along with the skylights. Additional turf is needed for the drainage in the rear of the building and the new field will be done in the spring 2022. V. Update of Snow and Farm Hill Roofing Projects – Roof, PV, AC & State Approval Mr. Dion stated a building committee needs to be established and a calendar created so the building committee can move forward with the project and formals steps. Mr. Lofreddo stated the City has approval for PV’s but presently there is no funding in place. VI. Discussion on 5-Year Plan for Capital Projects for 2021/2022 – K. Dion There are some items along with the Bielefield roof that were not on the list otherwise the 5-year plan seems to be working out fine at this point. Ms. Cain asked to find ages on the roofs. VII. Update on Facilities Department Staffing Vacancies – K. Dion There were no further updates. (Continued) - Page 2 - VIII. Middletown High School Translucent Panel Replacement Project The contractor that did the Farm Hill School went through a formal bid process and had the lowest bid for the translucent panels. Hoping to see if they have the capacity to do all the work necessary there. IX. Lawrence, Wesley and Bielefield Schools HVAC RTU Replacement (Summer 2022) These are presently on the schedule for this coming summer. Awaiting delivery of new roof top units so installation scheduling can be started. X. Miscellaneous The Middletown High School track and field replacement appropriations were approved and a special Facilities Committee meeting with a presentation from the Keystone Company will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, February 23, 2022. Chairperson Cain made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:50 PM and it was seconded by Ms. Dempsey-White.
