COMMITTEE CONCERNING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES MEETING MINUTES City of Middletown 61 Durant Terrace – Recreation/Community Service Building November 6, 2018 6:00 PM 1. Members Present: Marty Knight/Chairperson, Joe Carta (via phone), August DeFrance, Joseph Bibisi, Phil Cacciola, Dr. Helen Evrard and Keith Vinci. Absent: Elderrean Paules and Richard Pelletier Staff Present: Catherine Lechowicz – Director of Recreation and Community Services General Public: none 2. Meeting Called to Order: Called to order at 6:01pm. 3. Public Hearing: 4. Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the meeting minutes of September 11, 2018, was made by Joseph Bibisi and seconded by Keith Vinci. The motion carried. A motion to approve the meeting minutes of October 2, 2018, was made by Phil Cacciola and seconded by Keith Vinci. There was a correction regarding a letter be sent to all City employees but should have read that a letter be sent to local businesses as well. Cathy stated that she can send a letter out through Central Business Bureau as well as the Downtown Business District. August DeFrance, Joseph Bibisi and Dr. Helen Evrard abstained. The motion carried. Departmental Reports:  Joseph Bibisi stated that the warming center will be opening up on November 19th at the Holy Trinity Church. A discussion ensued.  August DeFrance stated that he does not have anything to report.  Keith Vinci stated that he did not have anything to report because everything is in limbo.  Joe Carta stated that things are going very well except for voting. He stated that when he went to vote he asked for an accommodation at his polling station which was Woodrow Wilson Middle School. He did not see the IBS system and did not receive any type of accommodation. A discussion ensued.  Phil Cacciola stated that it is important to make sure that curb cuts are shoveled during the winter months. Also, we have to make sure that sidewalks are shoveled. A discussion ensued.  De. Helen Evrard stated that she has nothing to report.  Cathy Lechowicz stated that she wanted to give an update about the voting machines. Also, there are some renderings of what the middle school will look like. The project is moving along. The plan is that during the summer they will level the auditorium. Currently, if you are looking at Woodrow Wilson, all the way to the right in the front is the auditorium. They are going to level that this summer even though school will still be in session. They will need this area for equipment. A discussion ensued.  Marty Knight stated that the committee has to approve the meeting schedule for 2019. There are 2 months in which that the meetings will occur on the second Tuesday instead of the first. A motion was made by Phil Cacciola to approve the 2019 CCPD meeting schedule and was seconded by August DeFrance. The motion carried. A discussion ensued. Old Business New Business: Miscellaneous: Adjournment: A motion of adjournment was made by Phil Cacciola and was seconded by August DeFrance. The motion carried unanimously.
