COMMITTEE CONCERNING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES MEETING MINUTES City of Middletown 61 Durant Terrace – Recreation/Community Service Building October 1, 2019 6:00 PM 1. Members Present: Marty Knight/Chairperson, Joe Carta (via phone), August DeFrance, Richard Pelletier, & Keith Vinci. Absent: Phil Cacciola, Elderrean Paules, Dr. Helen Evrard and Joseph Bibisi Staff Present: Catherine Lechowicz – Director of Recreation and Community Services General Public: none 2. Meeting Called to Order: Called to order at 6:01pm. 3. Public Hearing: none 4. Approval of Minutes: A motion to approve the meeting minutes of September 10, 2019, was made by Richard Pelletier and seconded by August DeFrance. The motion carries. Keith Vinci abstained. Departmental Reports:  August DeFrance stated that he has nothing to report because he was scheduled for 2 meetings simultaneously and wasn’t able attend.  Richard Pelletier stated that the State has given final approval of the plans for the school. There will be a meeting on October 10th where he will receive more information. A discussion ensued.  Joe Carta stated that he had nothing to report.  Keith Vinci stated that he was at a meeting where there was a big discussion about the plastic straw ban. The people were discussing that they shouldn’t ban plastic straws because there are people that are disabled that need the plastic straws because the paper straws disintegrate too quickly. A discussion ensued.  Cathy Lechowicz reported on the Municipal Agent. Laura fielded 148 general questions and there were 2 that was ADA related. They were both taken care of very quickly. There was 1 issue that was difficult because the person did not take the help that was offered to him. Marty asked if everything was ready for Halloween on Main Street. A discussion ensued.  Marty Knight stated that the November CCPD meeting will be the same date as the Mayoral Election. He wanted to know if we should cancel the CCPD meeting or not. It was decided that the CCPD meeting will not be cancelled. A discussion ensued. Old Business New Business: Miscellaneous:  August DeFrance asked about the upcoming election. He wanted to know if Bill Russo was planning on running as an Independent. A discussion ensued. Adjournment: A motion of adjournment was made by Richard Pelletier and was seconded by August DeFrance . The motion carried unanimously.
