BIENNIAL MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT NOVEMBER 10, 2015 Biennial Meeting The Biennial Meeting of the Common Council of the City of Middletown was held in the Auditorium of Woodrow Wilson Middle School, Wilderman’s Way, in the City of Middletown on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Present His Honor Daniel T. Drew; Council Members Thomas J. Serra, Mary A. Bartolotta, Hope P. Kasper, Robert P. Santangelo, Grady L. Faulkner, Carl R. Chisem, Gerald E. Daley, James B. Streeto, Sebastian N. Giuliano and Deborah A. Kleckowski; and Mayor-elect Daniel T. Drew; Council Members- Elect Eugene Nocera, Thomas J. Serra, Mary A. Bartolotta, Gerald E. Daley, Robert P. Absent Council Members Sandra Russo Driska and David Bauer. Also Present The Honorable Lieutenant Governor Nancy Wyman; Rabbi Seth Haaz and Reverend Moses Harvill, Bishop W. Vance Cotten, Sr. and 180 members of the public, including State Representatives. Presentation of the Flag The presentation of colors is made by the Police and Fire Honor Guard. Chief of Police William McKenna escorts Mayor-elect Daniel T. Drew and the Honorable Nancy Wyman, Lieutenant Governor and elected officials to their seats. The National Anthem is sung by Yvette Early; the Pledge of Allegiance is led by Monica Flores, President and Emily Meeker, Vice President of the Woodrow Wilson Middle School Student Council. Invocation Rev. Moses Harvill delivers the invocation. Poet Laureate Susan Allison, First Poet Laureate of Middletown, reads her poem for the occasion entitled “Here we are Now in a Moment Like this One.” (Attached at end of minutes) Oath of Office Administered To Mayor-Elect, Daniel T. Drew The Clerk asks the Chief of Police to escort the Mayor’s family to Chief of Police to the stage. She introduces the Mayor-elect and Lieutenant Governor of the State of Connecticut, the Honorable Nancy Wyman who will deliver the oath of office. Ms Wyman thanks everyone around her for this honor to be part of this ceremony and congratulates the Mayor. She states this is her third time here. You have the toughest job of all. Lt Gov. Wyman administers the oath of office with Mayor. Drew responding I do. She offers congratulations. Mayor Drew thanks his wife Kate and family and that he would not be here without her support; he thanks the Lt. Governor for her service and friendship to Middletown. It is an honor to have you here tonight and appreciates what you do on behalf of the City and the State. Meeting Opens Mayor Drew calls the meeting to order. He asks the Clerk to read the call. He recognizes Miss Middletown. Each member so swears. The Mayor asks the Police Honor Guard to escort the Planning and Zoning Commission Members-Elect to the rostrum and administers the Oath of Office. Each member so swears. The Mayor asks the Police Honor Guard to escort the Board of Assessment Appeals Members-Elect to the rostrum and administers the Oath of Office. Each member so swears. Mayor Drew delivers the following address: Benediction and Closing The Mayor asks Rabbi Seth Haaz to come forward for the closing benediction. Meeting Adjourned Mayor Drew states he will entertain a motion to adjourn. Councilman Serra moves for adjournment and is seconded by Councilwoman Bartolotta. The vote is unanimous to adjourn.
