Chairman Ford Calls Meeting to Order at 6:45 PM MEMBERS PRESENT: Councilman Darnell Ford, Chairman Councilwoman Linda Salafia Councilman Phil Pessina STAFF PRESENT: Deputy Chief Richard Davis Fire Chief Jay Woron MEMBERS/STAFF ABSENT: Councilman Anthony Mangiafico Councilwoman Meghan Carta Erik M. Costa - Chief of Police 2. Approval of Minutes – September 18th, 2023 Councilman Ford made a motion to approve the PSC Minutes for September 18th, 2023 as the Councilman Pessina so moved, seconded by Councilwoman Salafia. There being no further discussion or objection, Motion passed. 3. Public Hearing – Matters on the Agenda Only ***None*** 4. Correspondence a. Officer’s Accolades Deputy Chief Davis reported;  Officer encountered a murder suspect on South Main at the Passport Inn. Was taken into custody and confirmed through a DNA hit.  Officer Karli Travis is receiving an award for bravery from AFSCME for her actions during an incident in early September. (also receiving the Marc Community Service Award on October 18th) o The commission will be notified when Karli is recognized so they can attend. 5. Monthly Reports a. Overtime Balances Deputy Chief Davis reported;  Overtime is up, but comparatively for last September we are down.  Three graduates came out of the academy last Thursday, we will not see them on the road until February.  2-3 laterals just came off field training, they are up and running and will help with OT numbers.  2 additional laterals coming him, hoping by the end of October, will alleviate OT b. Community Reports & Incident Statistics Reports Deputy Chief Davis reported on Community Reports;  Officer Bodell attended a Health and Wellness Fair at Yale and Polish Dolphins Club and an Elementary community Walk  PAL center is having a brand new opening in the next few weeks, hoping to have Halloween event Deputy Chief Davis reported on Incident Reports;  2,800 calls for service – September  2,950 calls for service – August  65 – criminal arrests  Motor vehicle stops down by 50 in September from August. c. Accountability Update Deputy Chief Davis reported on Accountability;  Had cameras and radios updated  Looking for funding for generated statistics to be viewed online by public 6. Old Business ***None*** 7. New Business Deputy Chief Davis reported on Accountability;  Need grant confirmation of half the cost of bullet proof vests ($40,000) o Will put forward in next meeting o 5 year shelf life approaching, OSHA requirement o Linda asked if the department was looking for a grant or an appropriation. Deputy Chief re   As a result of the RT 9 crash, looking to close that gap Councilman Phil Pessina:  Last PSC meeting,  Wants to thank the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief and Chief, it has been his honor, will continue to support  Chairman Ford thanked Councilman for his years of commitment and civic duty 8. Public Hearing Re-opened -- Other Matters ***None*** 9. Meeting Adjournment Councilman Ford made a motion to adjourn. Motion made by Councilman Pessina, seconded by Councilwoman Salafia.
