RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION DECEMBER 19, 2018 MEETING 5:00 P.M. MINUTES RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION – In attendance: Mary Bartolotta, Ed Dypa, Anthony Jaskot, Sue Laribee, Winn Lee, Phil Pessina Absent: Lucy Bettencourt, Akbar Coffy , Lincoln Everest, Matt Fraulino, Salvatore Uccello Staff: Cathy Lechowicz, Director AGENDA: Call Meeting to Order: Meeting called to order at 5:00pm. Approval of the Minutes: Tony Jaskot made a motion to approve the minutes; seconded by Ed Dypa. Public Hearing: no additional members of the public in attendance Department Reports: Building Updates Foundation was sealed on the outside, there is still some seepage so we are having it sealed from the inside too. A group was here this week that will seal the inside and give a 20 year warranty. Waiting on more information from them to get it processed on the city side. He is recommending a bead board and a raised floor deal as additional layers of security. Program Updates Senior we had Crazy Bingo, carolers from Vinal came, Early Bird Dinner. 100 members of the Senior Center signed and praised the work that the staff does in a letter that went to the mayor. For Rec – new brochure comes out in January – Spring programming and preview of summer programming. Changes coming to hours of summer camp 7:30 – 3:30. Buses will start around 7:50. 3:30-5:30 for aftercare at all sites. BOE is offering Literacy camp in Morning and the afternoon recreation will be provided by Recreation. NEW BUSINESS: OLD BUSINESS: Ahern Whalen wanting to recruit from out of town and how does it affect its grant. Would we collect fees and who would they be distributed to? Discussion ensues regarding field usage for programs that service Middletown children and the priority that should dictate the order in right to usage. Department name will be discussed next time. Filling Recreation Manager position after Deb Stanley’s Retirement. Ed Dypa made a motion to adjourn; seconded by Tony Jaskot; all in favor. Meeting adjourned at 6:24pm.
