RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION –
In attendance via WebEx: Philip Pessina, Dan Deconti, Kristen Jensen, Sal Uccello, Ed Dypa, Jeanette

Meeting called to order at 5:30pm.

Approval of the Minutes:
Motion to approve May minutes by Ed Dypa, seconded by Lincoln. All in favor.

Program Updates
Senior Dept
Continue a robust and more typical set of programming
Recreation Dept
Gearing up for camp which starts on 6/28. There is very high demand for camp.
Masks are required for all participants indoors and masks are optional outside.
Pool will open this Sunday 6/20 by reservation. The lake will open on Monday
6/21.
Doing responsive programming at Traverse Square and Macdonough, including
camp registration.
Received a $25,000 grant from the state to increase camp scholarships.
Building Updates
Work is almost complete. Waiting on some building materials.

Sports Grants Recommendations
Director Lechowicz presented staff recommendations for sports grants and gave rationale behind
allocation. Discussion ensued. Motion to approve grants as presented by Ed Dypa, seconded by
Councilwoman Blackwell.
Recreation Center Update
Meeting weekly to plan and discuss progress. Trying to be creative to maximize budget. The main
determinant is how the building will be heated and cooled, and how that work will be financed.
Discussions ongoing.
Veteran’s Pool Update
Planning is now in earnest. Director Lechowicz just received an email from the planning team to meet
and discuss plans in greater detail and some initial work on the ground is being done. Secured additional
funds from CDBG to ensure access to the park, specifically from the North End.
MISCELLANEOUS
Winn Lee is resigning as a commissioner due to a scheduling conflict.
Ed Dypa shared that access to the baseball field has improved and he’s appreciative.
Kristen Jensen inquired about some of the details about the pool reservations. The staff will be
responsive to demand and adjust as we can to make it as user friendly as possible.
