RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION October 21, 2021 MEETING 5:30 PM MINUTES RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION – In attendance via WebEx: Philip Pessina, Dan Deconti, Anthony Jaskot, Kristen Jensen, Ed Dypa, Jeanette Blackwell, Matt Fraulino, Sal Uccello Absent: Lincoln Everest Staff: Cathy Lechowicz, Director AGENDA: Call Meeting to Order: Meeting called to order at 5:33pm Public Hearing: Approval of the Minutes: Motion to September Meeting Minutes by Tony Jaskot and seconded by Councilwoman Blackwell. Unanimous approval. Department Reports: Program Updates Senior Dept Busy offering ‘typical’ programs. Continue to schedule people for the Booster clinics that received their original vaccination here. We will hold our first clinics on Monday 10/25 and Thursday 10/28. With the Johnson and Johnson just being approved, we are starting to schedule that clinic. Also held the flu clinic today (10/21). Recreation Dept Lots of fall/Halloween programs – candy car cruise this upcoming weekend Energy Proposal should go to the Common Council in November for final approval. Punch list items remain at the Beman school which impact the Rec Center – the wall is being constructed to fully enclose the Rec Center; the field in the back of the school is being built to support soccer and potentially lacrosse; and the paving for the parent drop off and parking for the Rec Center will be completed in November. We are already planning for the Toy Drive. Veterans Pool – the old pool has been demolished and trees removed, our team has been meeting with the planners to talk more details about both the pool and splashpad. Some elements of the project may not be complete next year such as the tunnel. OLD BUSINESS: NEW BUSINESS: Community Needs Assessment Project Director Lechowicz is working with the Quantitative Analysis Center to do a community assessment to better inform Recreation programming and use of the new Recreation Center. We will hold a stakeholder meeting next week (10/28) to ask what people see as community need and also wants from their stakeholder group. This information will help inform the community questionnaire that will be distributed more widely. MISCELLANEOUS Dan DeConti shared about Xavier Cross Country success at the SCC championships. Anthony Jaskot asked if the field behind the Beman school could be used for lacrosse. Kristen Jensen inquired about the use of Keigwin and if outside groups can use it. Director Lechowicz shared about the staff having a retreat at Empower. Councilwoman Blackwell shared information on the Riverfront project – the storefront has opened in Main St Market. Councilwoman asked if we could add the Riverfront as a standing item on the agenda. ADJOURNMENT Ed Dypa made a motion, Councilwoman Blackwell seconded. Meeting adjourned at 6:12pm.
