Resource Recycling Advisory Commission Meeting of November 25, 2019 Middletown Senior Center, 7 PM Members Present:, Alison Johnson, Izzy Guy, Robin Hanson, Krishna Winston. Members not present: Monica Belyea, Bessie Bianco, Chantel DeArmitt, Rebecca MacLachlan, Harold Panciera, Debbie Stanley Member of the Public Present: None Public Works Staff Present: Kim O’Rourke The meeting was called to order at 7:08 pm. The minutes of the October meeting were approved as presented. Recycling Coordinator Report Kim congratulated Krishna for being honored with a Linden tree planting at Wesleyan University. The Recycling Center is now accepting cooking oil for recycling. The City is working with Newport Bio Diesel. Cooking oil can be brought to the recycling center. The container is located by the antifreeze tank. Residents and small businesses can leave the oil on the pallet in front of the tank and staff will dump it in. RiverCog recently had a meeting with Kristen Brown to discuss PAYT to communities in the region. They may have another meeting after the first of the year since new people have been elected to office. Kim said she gave bags out at Amazing Grace on America Recycles Day and also presented to the Middletown Garden Club. The recycling bid for the Sanitation District will be sent out soon. The current contract ends Dec. 31. Chairman’s Report Krishna encouraged members to attend the Mayor’s holiday celebration in December. She also discussed the Sustainability Conference at Yale on Nov. 1 & 2, the movie, Game Changers, and the next Sustainable CT meeting which will include the Mayor. She said John Hall also invited the Mayor to ECoin so hopefully there will be another opportunity to meet with him early in the year. Alison said she attended the Resilient CT Climate Adaption Summit on November 12. It included municipal and state agencies coming together to plan for the future. Jan. 4 Robin The group agreed to cancel the meeting scheduled for Dec. 23. Kim will send out an email to schedule through January. Members discussed waiting for the Mayor to get settled before inviting him to a meeting. Our January meeting will have a guest speaker, Dan Martens, who will talk about curbside food waste collection and specifically a program in Italy. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.
