SANITATION COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING TUESDAY, January 28, 2020 TIME: 4:30 P.M. MUNICIPAL BUILDING ROOM 210 MIDDLETOWN CONNECTICUT Members Present: Thomas Goglia Monica J. Belyea, MPH, RD John H. Porter John Uccello Members Absent: Chair Seb Santacroce Staff Present: William J. Russo, Public Works Director Carl Erlacher, Finance Director Kimberly O’Rourke, Recycling Coordinator Mayor Ben Florsheim Bobbye Peterson, Chief of Staff Lee Muscatello, Tax Collector In Chair Santacroce’s absence, John Uccello opened the Sanitation Commission meeting at 4:30 P.M. He requested a motion to approve the minutes from April 29, 2019. A motion was made to approve the minutes. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. Correspondence: Dainty Rubbish Service- Director Russo notifies the Sanitation Commission about the fire that occurred at 90 Industrial Ave. An application for a permit to dump at 80 Industrial Ave. until 90 Industrial Ave is fixed. We would be doing the application, because it would take longer for Dainty to get approval. Director Russo will meet with Deputy General Counsel Kori Termine Wisneski and Dainty Rubbish regarding this matter. NEW BUSINESS: a. Recycle updates- We will be getting charged $115.00 per ton for contamination. Kimberly will be getting more involved to help reduce contamination. She will be working closely with the sanitation foreman to get this under control. Further discussion ensued. b. Update on Tipping Fee- Carl Erlacher, Director of Finance is here to give the Sanitation Commission an update in the tipping fees. Carl States that we are now in a positive situation. The tip fees are down. Further discussion ensued. c. Interest & Lien charges for Jeffrey Wilson – Jeffrey Wilson is stationed overseas and had an address change. The bill has accumulated interest charges and lien charges. We are asking the permission of the Sanitation Commission to waive the interest and lien charges. A motion was made. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously. OLD BUSINESS: a. Cardboard Report – The Sanitation Commission reviewed their cardboard reports. b. Tonnage Report – The Sanitation Commission reviewed their tonnage reports. OTHER: As there was no further discussion, a motion was made by John Porter to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Thomas Goglia and approved unanimously. The Sanitation Commission meeting adjourned at 5:06 P.M.
