URBAN FORESTRY COMMISSION Minutes of June 15, 2023 IN PERSON SPECIAL MEETING Room 208 Municipal Building MEMBERS PRESENT MEMBERS ABSENT ALSO PRESENT Jane Harris, Chairwoman Chris Holden, Public Works Director Bob Grimm Chris Donnelly- staff Dave Meyering Steve Cronkite- guest 1. Roll Call Jane Harris, Chairwoman, called the meeting to order at 4:33 pm, in Room 210 of the Municipal Building at 245 DeKoven Drive. The roll was called and a quorum was determined. Review of Minutes Motion: To approve the minutes of May 25, 2023. Moved by Bob Grimm; seconded by Dave Meyering; approved unanimously. There was a minor correction to the minutes about the location of a stump. 2. Old Business Tree Warden Report  Director Holden shared that J&J was in town and did cutting and pruning. There was discussion about the work done on Miner Street and Smith Street and how the roadwork affected trees on the street. Director Holden went over the process of hot in place paving and explained why it had an effect on the streets trees. He noted that the leaves should just be dried out and should come back next year without issue. Public Works Report  Nothing additional to above. Account Balance  Account balances were not discussed. Spring Tree Planting Sites  Nothing additional to report. Recommended Street Tree planting list.  Chairwoman Harris confirmed this can be removed from the agenda. 3. New Business  Tree Impact from Paving- Nothing additional to the information provided under the Tree Warden Report.  Tree Bid List- There was discussion about trees at the arboretum that need to be pruned or removed. 4. Other/Correspondence  Chairwoman Harris provided a letter about the Honey Locusts in front of Russell Library.  It was decided that Chris Donnelly will go by the title City Forester as he holds all the qualifications to do so.  Tree plaques were briefly discussed, including where they were previously ordered, layout and what sizing would be appropriate for the committee’s needs.  The beech tree on the Green was discussed and what can potentially be done to address disease issues. At this point the beech tree on the Green looks fine.  Director Holden brought up potentially replacing the holiday tree on the Green. 5. Public Comment  None at this time. 6. Adjournment Motion to adjourn at 5:27pm. Moved by Bob Grimm; seconded by Dave Meyering, approved unanimously.
