City of Middletown Middletown Veterans’ Park Pool & Splash Pad Building Committee MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, March 8, 2023 Time: 6:00 PM Members Present: Councilman Gene Nocera Councilman Ed McKeon Councilman Mike Marino Councilman Phil Pessina Councilman Darnell Ford Anthony Jaskot, Committee Member Staff Present: Christopher M. Holden, P.E., Director of Public Works Cathy Lechowicz, Director of Recreation Rohan Manning, Chief Management Analyst Others Present: Hindrin Saeed- SLR Mike Doherty- SLR 1. Chairman opens meeting at 6:00 PM. 2. Minutes – Councilman Marino made a motion to approve the minutes dated February 8, 2023. Anthony Jascot seconded the motion. There was no objection, Councilman Pessina abstained and the motion passed. 3. Public Comment on Agenda Items- None 4. Correspondence – None 5. New Business a. Project update- Director Holden shared that he was on site recently and there is good progress being made. The pool, splash pad area and the interior building is all being worked on. Hindrin Saeed shared photos of the project. A temporary guide rail was put up and the subgrade and paving of the roadway will be done at a later date. Chain link fence was installed. The electrical room of the basement storage room has to be extended due to relocation of security systems equipment. The pool sand filter was installed. The sand will collect all the debris from the pool water. The water storage tank was installed. Wood construction has started on the front entryway. The new building pad has been laid. The shower area was painted. The gutter system for the pool is in. The splash pad is taking shape. Mike Doherty gave an update and spoke about the pool trench drain and filtration system. There is also in infiltration system where some of the water will go into the ground and drain. Numerous grass swales are being placed to pick up storm water so that it doesn’t go directly into surface drains. Councilman Pessina asked about the pedestrian bridge from the North End. Mike Doherty stated that the City has the application package and it needs to make its way to the State (FEMA). Councilman McKeon shared that there is a pathway under Newfield Street that can give people access, it just needs to be cleaned up. b. C.J. Fucci Invoice- $814,991.86- Director Holden reviewed this invoice and recommends it for approval. He stated this represents about 62% of the finances complete at this point. Councilman Pessina made a motion to approve the invoice. Councilman Marino seconded the motion. It passed unanimously. c. C.J. Fucci Change Order 3- $75,348.58- Director Holden reviewed this change order and recommends it for approval. Councilman Pessina made a motion to approve this change order. Tony Jascot seconded the motion. It passed unanimously. d. SLR Invoices- $42,211.53. This is for inspection services and testing of materials on site. Director Holden reviewed this invoice and recommends it for approval. Councilman McKeon made a motion to approve the invoice. Councilman Pessina seconded the motion. It passed unanimously. 6. Old Business- None 7. Other- None The meeting adjourned at 6:29 PM
