1. Roll call.
Meeting convened: 3:03 P.M.
Present: 5 - Pieper Eisenbrown, Jarosz, Hoeschen, Opgenorth, Clendenen-Acosta
Absent: 1 - Williams
Excused: 1 - Bauman
2. Review and approval of the minutes of the April 15, 2014 meeting.
Mr. Hoeschen moved, seconded by Anna-Marie Opgenorth, for approval of the
minutes. There were no objections.
3. Update on the plaquing program.
Individuals present: Dustin Weis and Dan Mrotek - Public Relations Division Mr.
Mrotek went through his handout and PowerPoint presentation, attached to file
130422 of the many options available to the Commission. Non-standard sizes, those
not being rectangles, squares or circles, will increase the cost. QR code technology
might be dated and cause probelms in the future and the other possibility is to list a
web address on the plaque itself or take a picture with a phone and link directly to the
website. The Commission has a number of text fonts to choose from.
Mr. Hoeschen asked if the HPC logo could be on the plaques. Mr. Hoeschen was
concerned that QR codes might not be updated or be unflattering to HPC or the city.
The Public Relations Division could post and maintain sites for the structures, but Mr.
Hoeschen was not sure he wanted city staff doing this. He also asked if the HPC
logo or the city seal could be optional as the city isn't paying for these plaques.
Mr. Jarosz would like to get pictures of the current plaques on local buldings, such as
the National Landmark plaques and the county plaque.
Mr. Jarosz said that over time a number of plaques become hard to read. The
plaque needs to be easy to read and be able to maintain that over time. Mr.
Hoeschen thought that sans serif fonts are easier to read from a distance.
Ms. Opgenorth moved to not have the electronic elements on the plaque.
Mr. Mrotek will provide members with pictures of the local plaques.
The Commission does require that some text is required explaining the historical

COMMISSION
signficance of the site.
Staff will provide differing sizes of the plaque so the Commission can see what
varying plaques might look like.
Ms. Opgenorth likes the oval shape and Mr. Jarosz said that add text that shows that
the site is locally designated, rather than designated by the owner. Mr. Jarosz would
like some kind of logo and Mr. Hoeschen would like it as well if it doesn't add a lot of
expense.
Members did not want to number the plaques and would be referred to as "locally
designated".
The owner may affix the plaque with an adhesive or bolts depending upon the
material to which it is being affixed.
Mr. Mrotek will take text from the County Historical Society plaque to add to the
sample.
