Roll Call The meeting convened at 4:05 PM Individual also present: Sally Witte, Department of City Development Present 14 - Murphy, DeLind, Kingsbury, McSweeney, Morris, Flores, Fraker, Murphy, Kovac, Harpole, Klose, Layden, Balistreri and Garcia Excused 3 - Cubias, Kosarzycki and Hill 2. Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes Mr. Flores moved approval of the minutes, seconded by Mr. DeLind. There were no objections. 3. Public Art Subcommittee Report Ms. Morris stated the Public Art Subcommittee discussed the guidelines for the New Work Fund. Ald. Muphy stated MKE Plays received a grant from NEA to have artists create public art with the community at 4 central city playgrounds. Ald. Murphy stated a tv show is being filmed in Milwaukee for the History Channel about a blacksmith from Milwaukee and a cast iron beer tap statue was created near the Pabst Development. 4. Milwaukee Arts Board Grant Review Panel for 2016 Project Grant Funding Recommendations and Approval Mr. DeLind stated the Grants Review Panel received 50 applications, 47 of which were eligible and 33 are recommended for funding. Mr. DeLind moved approval of the grant recommendation, seconded by Mr. Flores. There were the following abstentions: Ald. Kovac abstained from voting on Historic Milwaukee City of Milwaukee Page 1 MILWAUKEE ARTS BOARD Meeting Minutes May 10, 2016 Ms. Layden abstained from voting on Milwaukee Film, The Haggerty Museum of Art Ms. Kingsbury abstained from voting on Woodland Pattern Books A total of $217,000 was granted for arts programming for 33 organizations. Twenty-nine are funded at $7,000 and four at $3,500. The following organizations were granted funding: Artists Working in Education, Arts @ Large, Bel Canto Chorus, Betty Brinn Children's Museum, Danceworks, Early Music Now, Ex Fabula, First Stage, Florentine Opera, Historic Milwaukee, In Tandem Theatre, Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Ballet, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Milwaukee Children's Choir, Milwaukee Film, Milwaukee Public Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Youth Theatre, Optimist Theatre, Piano Arts, Present Music, Redline Milwaukee, Renaissance Theaterworks, Riverwest Artists Association, Skylight Music Theatre Corp., String Academy Of Wisconsin, Tessa's Black Entertainment & Youth Center, Walker's Point Center For The Arts, Wild Space Inc., Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and Woodland Pattern 5. Old Business There was no old business. 6. Announcements Sally Witte stated the production of Fences at the Milwaukee Repatory Theater is partially funded by the Board. Anne Kingsbury stated an art show funding in part by the Board has opened. The next meeting will be held offsite at the Marcus Center on June 14th.
