Roll Call Individual also present: Sally Witte, Department of City Development Tim Murphy joined the meeting at 3:22 PM Present 4 - Morris, Murphy, Klose and Layden Excused 1 - McSweeney 2. Review and Approval of Previous Meeting Minutes Ms. Layden moved approval of the minutes, seconded by Ms. Klose. There were no objections. 3. Conservation Fund - Consideration of Proposals & Recommendations for Funding Applications were received from the following organizations for conservation projects: Westown Association of Milwaukee, Inc for the Spanish-American War Hero statue. Ms. Morris recommended deferring the application to the next cycle or having the applicant come to the next meeting to answer questions. 5 Points Neighborhood Association for landscaping at a park. Ms. Morris moved to deny the application because the request is not for conservation, but creation of a new park, seconded by Ms. Klose. There were no objections. The Bells of Milwaukee, Inc for Historic Notre Dame Convent Bells and Belfry for restoring bells. Ms. Morris requested the applicants appear at the next meeting to respond to questions and concerns. - Updates on Projects Friends of Juneau Park are still working on the restoration of the statues. 4. New Work Fund - Promotion of Current Cycle Applications are coming in for the Fund, the deadline is February 28th and the City of Milwaukee Page 1 MILWAUKEE ARTS BOARD PUBLIC Meeting Minutes February 14, 2017 ART SUBCOMMITTEE applications will be reviewed at the next meeting. - Updates on Projects The Milwaukee Road is working on developing their project and planning meetings continue. Sculpture Milwaukee is continuing to meet and they have 20 sculptures and sites already selected. 5. Old Business Leo Ries, Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Economic Development Corporation stated the Milwaukee Enterprise Center will be converted into apartments and office space and they would like to erect a statue of Welford Sanders in the courtyard. The groundbreaking will occur in May and they plan on applying to the New Work Fund for a grant. Marquita Edwards, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Drive gallery stated she is assisting in finding an artist and developing the project. Ms. Morris suggested developing a budget including maintenance, offering the artist a flat fee, and looking at statues of people around the City to get ideas for size, landscaping, perspective, etc. 6. Announcements In the event that Common Council members who are not members of this committee attend this meeting, this meeting may also simultaneously constitute a meeting of the Common Council or any of the following committees: Community and Economic Development, Finance and Personnel, Judiciary and Legislation, Licenses, Public Safety, Public Works, Zoning, Neighborhoods & Development, and/or Steering and Rules. Whether a simultaneous meeting is occurring depends on whether the presence of one or more of the Common Council member results in a quorum of the Common Council or any of the above committees, and, if there is a quorum of another committee, whether any agenda items listed above involve matters within that committee’s realm of authority. Parking tickets must be validated in the first floor Information Booth in City Hall. Persons engaged in lobbying as defined in s. 305-43-4 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances are required to register with the City Clerk's Office License Division.
