SPECIAL WORKSHOP MEETING
MINERAL WELLS CITY COUNCIL
LAKE MINERAL WELLS STATE PARK
December 16, 2016 – 9:00 am
City Councilmembers present were Mayor Mike Allen, Mayor Pro-Tem John
Upham, Councilmembers Clif Wright, Jerrel Tomlin, Tammy Underwood, and
Wayne Johnson. Councilmember Brian Reagan was absent. A quorum of
City Councilmembers was present.
Staff members present were City Manager Lance Howerton, Police Chief
Dean Sullivan, Fire Chief Mike Pool, Finance Director John Moran,
Public Works Director Kelly Jones, and City Clerk Juanita Formby.
This special informal workshop was called to inform and update the
City Council on a variety of on-going projects the City is currently
involved with, and to hear reports from Department Directors.
The City Council received update/reports from Wes Jurey regarding the
Envision Mineral Wells project; Ryan Roach of the Mineral Wells Area
Chamber of Commerce regarding tourism and other on-going Chamber
activities; Steve Butcher regarding the Area Growth Council, the
Mineral Wells Industrial Foundation, and progress and challenges
associated with business and industry recruitment. Department
Directors for Public Works, Fire, Police, and Finance gave
presentations regarding activities in their respective departments and
future needs. Mr. Howerton discussed projects to be the subject of a
future bond election/capital improvements program. City
Councilmembers Wayne Johnson and Clif Wright brought suggestions and
asked questions regarding the budget process, annexation, the process
for keeping ordinances current, timely provision of information to the
City Council, the City Council on-line message board and use of
social media, and the capability of having an absent member of the
Council join the meeting from a remote location.
No action was taken in this informal workshop meeting. The workshop
was adjourned at 4:00 pm.
