City Council

On February 9, 2023, a Special Meeting of the Minot City Council was held at the Depot in Minot. Members Present: Burlingame, Evans, Olson, Ross Members Absent: Jantzer, Pitner, Podrygula STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS At 11:30 am Harold Stewart, City Manager, addressed the crowd. The Magic City Change of Pace Choir sang the national anthem. The Minot Area Community Foundation and local soup kitchens provided the meal for the State of the City. At 12:05 pm, Harold introduced Mayor Tom Ross. Mayor Ross began his speech by thanking many organizations, city employees, citizens, council members, and more. The Mayor discussed the relationship of the City of Minot and the Minot Air Force Base. He recognized two airmen who took the oath to defend our country and to become citizens of our country. Mayor Ross spoke about his simple yet important message using the word “Together”. He discussed 2023 projects such as moving City Hall downtown, the 5th Fire Station, recycling, Trinity’s new medical campus, the new Minot North High School, and the Intermodal Transportation Facility. He spoke about EPIC renovating the former Big M building, Citizens Alley Ice Rink, the façade program for downtown, the new investments in the mall such as Scheel’s and Target. The NAWS project, which solidifies Minot as a regional water provider, and flood control happening all around Minot. Mayor Ross discussed Minot becoming an MPO and reaching the 50,000-population mark. He mentioned in 2023 he would like to create a Magic City Hall of Fame. He spoke about the residents of Minot and the great things they have done for our community. Our community where teachers not only educate school subjects but also teach about life. In 2023, he would like to support the educational institutions and teachers fight cyberbullying. The Mayor recognized Harold Marten, City of Minot Sanitation employee, for his outstanding customer service to the citizens of Minot, especially with a resident who receives valet garbage collection. Mayor Ross also recognized TJ Franks, a 7th grader from Bishop Ryan, for his victory of making three magical baskets during half-time of a basketball game. He recognized the Pursuit Church for their Day of Hope, which provided so many with help and hope. The Mayor ended speaking about how “Together, we are one Community”.
