Trustee Koenig: The Chocolate & Wine event was a great success. The Friends raised
over $14,000 with over 350 tickets sold. There were only 3 silent auctions items
remaining and $5,000 raised for the auction. Sirie saved the day at the end of the auction
when she assisted with receiving payments.
Trustee Reneker: Will write a thank you letter to the Friends highlighting the improvement
of the new layout of the Wine & Chocolate event, along with the Friends’ hard work, that
made it a wonderful event; Shared information with Trustees about the University of
Chicago’s Library that was built by going down, not up.
Trustee Yamanishi: Attended the Development Executives Network meeting and will be
presenting to the Endowment Committee the information that the luncheon speaker, Lisa
Bennett, gave about speaking with donors; Also, still enjoying reading stories to retired
people at Park Lane.
Trustee Castagna: Spoke about installing a hearing loop in the Library Community Room
and how it would be a beneficial asset to the Library for those hard of hearing.
INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS
Community Services and Library Director Bui-Burton: Thanked Doug and staff for
covering during her absence, especially at the Wine and Chocolate event.
Assistant Library Director Holtzman: A big thanks for Jeanne, Inga, Katie and the Library
Pages who assisted with the Chocolate and Wine event.
Last night City Council made a very important decision that will impact the Library for
decades to come; they voted 4-0 to approve a $32 million renovation of the Monterey
Conference Center. TOT is 25-30% of the general fund budget; the renovation is aimed
at developing a center that has flexible spaces, the latest technology, and blended
meeting space that allow for remote participants.
