2 and directed Library Director Michael to further review with the appropriate NIP contact.

Library Director Michael: Announced that there are four new 1849 Society members.

Trustee Koenig left the meeting at 6:33 p.m. and returned at 6:35 p.m.

TRUSTEE COMMENTS
Trustee Yaminishi: Happy to see the manner in which the strategic plan is moving forward.
Trustee Ramaswamy: Commented on the wealth of information provided and how much is
taking place at the Library.

Trustee Wojtkowski: During a recent visit to Maui she was surprised to see four Friends of the
library bookstores.
Trustee Koenig: On behalf of the Friends of the Monterey Public Library, Library Board
members are reminded that donations are appreciated and welcomed for Chocolate & Wine as
well as any volunteer assistance at the event. Previous trustee Maxine Reneker will again
donate port.
Trustee Castagna: Shared the innovative programming that San Francisco Public Library is
currently providing for their homeless patrons, which account for approximately 15% of their
5,000 daily visitors, by employing a psychiatric social worker.
ADJOURNMENT
Having no further business to come before the Library Board, Chair Castagna adjourned the
meeting at 6:57 p.m.

CONSENT ITEMS

recommended to be continued, tabled or withdrawn, etc. Consent items consist of those items
which are routine and for which a staff recommendation has been prepared. A member of the
public or a Trustee may request that an item recommended for approval on consent be heard on
the regular agenda for further discussion.

PUBLIC COMMENTS allows you, the public, to speak for a maximum of three minutes on any
subject which is not on the agenda. Any person or group desiring to bring an item to the attention
of the Library Board may do so during Public Comments or by addressing a letter of explanation
to: Community Services and Library Director, Monterey Public Library, 625 Pacific Street,
Monterey, CA 93940. The appropriate staff person will contact the sender concerning the details.

PUBLIC APPEARANCE items are reports on action or informational issues that might stimulate
public discussion, but that do not require formal noticing as public hearings. You are welcome to
offer your comments after being recognized by the Chair. The Chair may limit the time allocated to
each speaker.

INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS is used by the Library Director to make a
brief report on her activities or a brief announcement. The Director may also ask for clarification or
direction regarding scheduling of Board meetings and study sessions.

TRUSTEE COMMENTS
Trustees may ask a question for clarification, make a brief announcement or make a brief report
on his or her activities. In addition, a the Board may provide a referral to staff or other resources
for factual information, request staff to report back to the body at a subsequent meeting
concerning any Library matter, or direct staff to place a request to agendize a matter of business
on a future agenda. (G.C. 54954.2)
ADJOURNMENT
“The Board of Monterey Public Library Trustees provides stewardship for Monterey Public Library
assets and services on behalf of all residents, ensures adaptability to a diverse population, changing
environment and advancing technology. Trustees advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the
Library, and advocate on the Library’s behalf, while ensuring an ongoing flow of information between
the Library, the community and the City Council, in accordance with Section 7.1 of the Monterey City
Charter and in support of the mission statement of the Monterey Public Library.”

The Library Board of Trustees meeting packet may be reviewed by the public in the Library. Information
distributed to the Library Board at the Board meeting becomes part of the public record. A copy of
written material, pictures, etc. should be provided for this purpose.
