MINUTES LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES Regular Meeting Thursday, March 19, 2015 1:30 PM LIBRARY SOLARIUM CONFERENCE ROOM, 625 PACIFIC STREET MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Trustees Present: Yamanishi, Castagna, Koenig, Wojtkowski, Varna Ramaswamy Trustees Absent: None Staff Members Library Director Michael, Reference and Reader Services Present: Manager Waite, Administrative Assistant Garibaldi CALL TO ORDER Chair Castagna called the meeting to order at 1:31 p.m. ROLL CALL PUBLIC COMMENTS Chair Castagna opened the floor for public comments: No public comments. PUBLIC APPEARANCE New Business 1. Approve 2015-17 Library Operating Budget Action: Distributed revised supplemental budget request. Discussed and approved the 2015-17 Library operating budget and the revised supplemental budget request. On a motion by Library Trustee Yamanishi, seconded by Library Trustee Wojtkowski, and carried by the following vote, the Library Board of Trustees approved the 2015-17 Library operating budget and authorize staff to enter personnel and internal service charge updates received from the Finance Department and correct technical errors identified before the budget is submitted: AYES: 5 TRUSTEES: Ramaswamy, Yamanishi, Castagna, Koenig, Wojtkowski NOES: 0 TRUSTEES: None ABSENT: 0 TRUSTEES: None ABSTAIN: 0 TRUSTEES: None RECUSED: 0 TRUSTEES: None On a motion by Library Trustee Ramaswamy, seconded by Library Trustee Koenig, and carried by the following vote, the Library Board of Trustees approved the revised supplemental budget request: AYES: 5 TRUSTEES: Ramaswamy, Yamanishi, Castagna, Koenig, Wojtkowski NOES: 0 TRUSTEES: None ABSENT: 0 TRUSTEES: None Library Board of Trustees Minutes Thursday, March 19, 2015 ABSTAIN: 0 TRUSTEES: None RECUSED: 0 TRUSTEES: None 2. Informed trustees of draft congratulatory letter to Chris Shake who was selected as Citizen of the Year. Any person or group desiring to bring an item to the attention of the Library Board may do so during Public Comments or by addressing a letter of explanation to: Library Director, Monterey Public Library, 625 Pacific Street, Monterey, CA 93940. The appropriate staff person will contact the sender concerning the details. PUBLIC APPEARANCE PUBLIC APPEARANCE items are reports on action or informational issues that might stimulate public discussion, but that do not require formal noticing as public hearings. You are welcome to offer your comments after being recognized by the Chair. The Chair may limit the time allocated to each speaker. New Business 1. Approve 2015-17 Library Operating Budget 2. Approve 2015-17 Library Trust Fund Budget INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS is used by the Library Director to make a brief report on his activities or a brief announcement. The Director may also ask for clarification or direction regarding scheduling of Board meetings and study sessions. TRUSTEE COMMENTS Trustees may ask a question for clarification, make a brief announcement or make a brief report on his or her activities. In addition, a the Board may provide a referral to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to the body at a subsequent meeting concerning any Library matter, or direct staff to place a request to agendize a matter of business on a future agenda. (G.C. 54954.2) ADJOURNMENT “The Board of Monterey Public Library Trustees provides stewardship for Monterey Public Library assets and services on behalf of all residents, ensures adaptability to a diverse population, changing environment and advancing technology. Trustees advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the Library, and advocate on the Library’s behalf, while ensuring an ongoing flow of information between the Library, the community and the City Council, in accordance with Section 7.1 of the Monterey City Charter and in support of the mission statement of the Monterey Public Library.” -adopted by Library Board of Trustees, April 25, 2007 The Library Board of Trustees meeting packet may be reviewed by the public in the Library. Information distributed to the Library Board at the Board meeting becomes part of the public record. A copy of written material, pictures, etc. should be provided for this purpose. The City of Monterey is committed to including the disabled in all of its services, programs and activities.
