BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING MINUTES CITY OF MONTEREY Thursday, June 22, 2023 4:00 PM COUNCIL CHAMBER, 580 PACIFIC STREET, AND ZOOM TELECONFERENCE MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Trustees Present: Fellguth, Joshi, Moroh, Petty, Silveria Trustees Absent: None Staff Members Present: Library & Museums Director, Administrative Assistant, Library Manager CALL TO ORDER Chair Fellguth called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m ROLL CALL CONSENT ITEMS On a motion by Trustee Moroh, seconded by Trustee Silveria, and carried by the following vote, the Board of Library Trustees approved the consent agenda: AYES: 5 TRUSTEES: Fellguth, Joshi, Moroh, Petty, Silveria NOES: 0 TRUSTEES: None ABSENT: 0 TRUSTEES: None ABSTAIN: 0 TRUSTEES: None RECUSED: 0 TRUSTEES: None Approval of Minutes 1. May 25, 2023 (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Approved Other Consent Items 2. Request Appropriation of $7,500 in Grant Funds to the Fiscal Year 2023-24 Library Trust Fund Budget (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Requested appropriation ***End of Consent Agenda*** PUBLIC COMMENTS Public comment was received by two community members. PUBLIC APPEARANCE 3. Review Council Policy on Selection of Officers and Select Chair and Vice-Chair for 2023-24 (Not a Project under CEQA Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received and discussed Board of Library Trustees Meeting Minutes June 22, 2023 Chair Fellguth confirmed the appointment of Library Trustee Joshi as Chair and Library Trustee Silveria as Vice Chair for 2023-24. INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & STAFF COMMENTS 4. Receive Update on Library Director Activities (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received and discussed Library and Museums Director Edwards reviewed his activity report. Library Trustees asked questions and made comments. There was no public comment on the matter. 5. Receive Quarterly Report on Library Activities (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received and discussed Library Manager Smith shared highlights from the quarterly library activity report. Library Trustees asked questions and made comments. There was no public comment on the matter. 6. Receive Financial Report (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received and discussed Library and Museums Director Edwards reviewed the financial report. Library Trustees asked questions and made comments. There was no public comment on the matter. 7. Receive Statistical Report (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Received and discussed Library and Museums Director Edwards reviewed the statistical report. Library Trustees asked questions and made comments. The Board requested a copy of the statistical report submitted to the State. There was no public comment on the matter. TRUSTEE COMMENTS Moroh thanked Chair Fellguth and Vice Chair Joshi for leading the Board this past year and welcomed the incoming Chair and Vice Chair. Joshi thanked Fellguth for her service. Silveria expressed appreciation to Fellguth and commented positively about seeing the Buffalo Solider exhibit. 2 Board of Library Trustees Meeting Minutes June 22, 2023 Petty inquired about staff day and commented about the ease of using the self check-out machine. Fellguth thanked everyone and said she looked forward to serving with Joshi and Silveria. She thanked the staff and commented that seeing the library returning to life was exciting. In addition, the Board may provide a referral to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to the body at a subsequent meeting concerning any Library matter, or direct staff to place a request to agendize a matter of business on a future agenda. (G.C. 54954.2) ADJOURNMENT “The Board of Monterey Public Library Trustees provides stewardship for Monterey Public Library Board of Library Trustees 6/22/2023 4:00:00 PM 2 assets and services on behalf of all residents, ensures adaptability to a diverse population, changing environment and advancing technology. Trustees advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the Library, and advocate on the Library’s behalf, while ensuring an ongoing flow of information between the Library, the community and the City Council, in accordance with Section 7.1 of the Monterey City Charter and in support of the mission statement of the Monterey Public Library.” -adopted by Library Board of Trustees, April 25, 2007 The Library Board of Trustees meeting packet may be reviewed by the public in the Library. Information distributed to the Library Board at the Board meeting becomes part of the public record. A copy of written material, pictures, etc. should be provided for this purpose.
