BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES REGULAR MEETING MINUTES CITY OF MONTEREY Thursday, October 26, 2023 4:00 PM COUNCIL CHAMBER, 580 PACIFIC STREET MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA Trustees Present: Joshi, Moroh, Petty, Silveria Trustees Absent: Fellguth Staff Members Present: Library & Museums Director, Administrative Assistant CALL TO ORDER Chair Joshi called the meeting to order at 4:07 p.m. ROLL CALL Library Trustee Fellguth was absent. CONSENT ITEMS On a motion by Trustee Petty, seconded by Trustee Moroh, and carried by the following roll- call vote, the Board of Library Trustees approved the consent items: AYES: 4 TRUSTEES: Joshi, Moroh, Petty, Silveria NOES: 0 TRUSTEES: None ABSENT: 1 TRUSTEES: Fellguth ABSTAIN: 0 TRUSTEES: None RECUSED: 0 TRUSTEES: None There was no public comment on the matter. Request Appropriation of $22,000 in Donated and Grant Funds to the 2023-24 Library Trust Fund Budget (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Approved request ***End of Consent Agenda*** PUBLIC COMMENTS Chair Joshi opened public comments: no public comments. PUBLIC APPEARANCE 7. Discuss Updating the Monterey Public Library Strategic Plan and Provide Direction (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) Action: Discussed Library & Museums Director Edwards gave an overview of the request to discuss the upcoming strategic planning process and invited comments about the direction. The Board discussed various aspects of the strategic planning process. Staff will return to a future meeting with a recommendation and timeline for the strategic planning process. There was no public comment on the matter. TRUSTEE COMMENTS Moroh complimented Local History Librarian Garza on his recent presentation at a donor event. Silveria agreed with Moroh’s compliment to Garza. Joshi agreed that Garza’s presentation was wonderful. He announced the dissolution of the Evaluation Committee STAFF COMMENTS Edwards announced that the Western Flyer’s homecoming celebration will take place November 4, 2023. Discuss Updating the Monterey Public Library Strategic Plan and Provide Direction (Not a Project under CEQA per Article 20, Section 15378 and under General Rule Article 5, Section 15061) TRUSTEE COMMENTS Trustees may ask a question for clarification, make a brief announcement or make a brief report on his or her activities. In addition, the Board may provide a referral to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to the body at a subsequent meeting concerning any Library matter, or direct staff to place a request to agendize a matter of business on a future agenda. (G.C. 54954.2) STAFF COMMENTS STAFF COMMENTS is used by the Library Director to make a brief report on activities or a brief announcement. The Director may also ask for clarification or direction regarding scheduling of Board meetings and study sessions. ADJOURNMENT “The Board of Monterey Public Library Trustees provides stewardship for Monterey Public Library assets and services on behalf of all residents, ensures adaptability to a diverse population, changing Board of Library Trustees 10/26/2023 4:00:00 PM 2 environment and advancing technology. Trustees advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the Library, and advocate on the Library’s behalf, while ensuring an ongoing flow of information between the Library, the community and the City Council, in accordance with Section 7.1 of the Monterey City Charter and in support of the mission statement of the Monterey Public Library.” -adopted by Library Board of Trustees, April 25, 2007 The Library Board of Trustees meeting packet may be reviewed by the public in the Library. Information distributed to the Library Board at the Board meeting becomes part of the public record. A copy of written material, pictures, etc. should be provided for this purpose.
